As you know I am constantly thinking the oral drugs do not work for me.

It has just been a strain on my pocketbook since being diagnosed. I

had to discontinue my Glucophage around 6 months ago from severe

diarrhea and after stopping it my BS has never changed. The good news

is that I am able to leave the house again because I don't have to find

a bathroom every 1/2 hour. :)

I decided to do a test with my Amaryl a couple of weeks ago. I don't

like taking it because it makes me hungry all day and then my numbers

would be up from eating so much. I get up in the morning and my BS is

always around 170. I take an injection of Byetta and 2 mg of Amaryl

and within 2 hours my BS is around 124. So for my test I got up and

just did the Byetta and stopped taking the Amaryl. My BS is still 170

upon rising and still around 120 2 hours later. So now I have also

stopped the Amaryl. I swear none of the oral pills do anything for me.

I am only taking Byetta and Lantus now. I am considering stopping 1 of

these to see what happens.

Any thoughts on this appreciated. Kat

p.s. I am seriously thinking of finding another endo. I think I need

some new and fresh ideas. Also what finally made me make this decision

is I called to ask a question about my bill and the billing lady was

rude to me on the phone for bothering her I guess. I think this is

unacceptable from a doctor's office. If I don't go to another endo I

will definitely bring it to the doctor's attention and tell her her

office person talks to her patients in a degrading manner and is rude.

I don't have time for this........

If you read about the drugs (I haven't checked the ones you were on)

you'll see they don't claim to have a very large effect on BG. My

husband is now on 500mg Metformin, which the manufacturers claim has

no effect and I did a one week test that seemed to show it does not.

I keep him on it because I want to make an appt with one of his team

to discuss increasing it to 500mg BID and I know you have to get kinda

used to Metformin to avoid stomach problems. Besides, it may have

some effect.

The biggest effect is a low carb diet and supplements. I don't know

how much is due to which because I haven't experimented dropping this

or that. In " supplements " I include cinnamon and vinegar which are

very cheap and easy to use.

I haven't been brave enough to stop the oral meds for a couple of days to

see what happens when just taking Byetta, but I do take my oral meds a

couple of hours after taking Byetta and eating and my sugars tend to be

lower.
