Guest guest
HI All... Please welcome Tara to our group! Tara, 349 definitely puts you squarely into Diabetes. Thankfully you had a friend with a meter and concern! You're going to get lot's of good advice here, but I'll preempt it a bit by saying that greatly reducing the carbs in your diet will go a long way towards giving you immediate help. Having said that, watch for Vicki's 'Newbie Letter' and consider that other replies you are going to see. Welcome aboard! Sorry you needed to be here!!! Guest guest
Tara, It is too bad that you can't get into to see a doctor for so long. I suppose you told them your blood sugar level? In the meantime, you might try adding more fiber to your diet in the form of raw vegies and/or beans. Both are filling, have lots of fiber, and are low glycemic. Low glycemic means they don't raise your blood sugar very much. You might also try increasing your exercise level as a way of dropping your blood sugar. In the mean time, have you considered trying another doctor? > >Rick, > > > >I have not been officially diagnosed yet. Guest guest
Hi Tara, welcome. Try not to let the information overwhelm you. Things get repeated over and pver so you don't need to worry about learning it all in one day. While lowering the amount of the carbs you eat will no doubt be a start this is sometimes so diffocult to do at first. Does this list still help people learn to shoot insulin? My suggestion would be to get some UL as it i still available, and let the seasoned vets here teach you how to shoot for a basal regulation. I chose insulin from the get-go, knowing that I couldn't just exercise my numbers down. I'm not sorry for that choice. in OH t2 dx 8-03 WOE, Lantus, Novolog ----- From: Sent: Sunday, October 30, 2005 11:31 AM Tara, It is too bad that you can't get into to see a doctor for so long. Guest guest
The sooner you can go the better, but in the meantime how about going to a drug store and buying the cheapest glucose meter you can find. And don't forget to price strips also. You want to learn as much as you can between now and your doctor visit. I suggest you test before each meal and 1 and 2 hours after each meal. That will help you learn what you can and can't eat. Also test when you wake. And take all that to the doctor. How about calling your old doctor and seeing if they can prescribe something long distance? > Is it not a good Idea to wait until 11/18? > > Tara

Insulin can only be taken by shot. Pills you hear about here or elsewhere aren't insulin, they are either stimulants to make a Type 2s pancreas make enough extra insulin to overcome insulin resistance or fill in for lost capacity, or work on other systems to effectively improve the blood glucose situation by other means.
