To my friends,

Well to answer my own question. I have been having intense burning on my surgical hand where my med's aren't covering at all. Think it's because of The RSD and my own nervous system. So I'm going to call Dr. this morning and see what we can do. The last surgery did this and I had no coverage just had to bite the bullet for 3 to 4 months and I swear I will not do it this time. Have been more active over the last couple of days. I felt sorry for my dog. He is so bored with this inactivity so been taking him for a stroll. Can only use one hand to steer the scooter. So it's Kinda awkward but I get it done for his sake. Other than that just Kinda going with the pain and resting some. I'm bored with that too. Haven't been online for a couple of days. Just haven't felt like it so now I'll catch up on the news of the grp. Take care all and here's to less pain and effort in our live's .

Hi Laurie,

Have you tried Clonidine? It was a life saver for me as it cut down on the intense burning I had in my original RSD site almost immediately. I used to wander around my house at 2 AM feeling like a fox caught in a trap, wanting to gnaw my leg off at the knee from the burning pain.

I have recently had the same problem with my toes and figured out I was not taking my Clonidine at regularly as I am supposed to. Not that it is a cure but really reduces the burning for me.

I went to a Podiatrist yesterday and was really surprised and hopeful when he had RSD as one of the diseases to check off on his new Patient form. And he really did know his RSD and unlike a lot of the doctors I have encountered agrees that while it usually starts in a limb definitely is an insidious disease, his words, that spread to the entire body in some people.

Anyway he x-rayed both feet but told me that I had nueromas in both feet even before the x rays. They showed that the arthritis in the right foot is really bad and he told me that I must be in wicked pain leading me to believe he was a New Englander at some point in his life> LOLAnyway the nerves on that foot are being pinched by the arthritis growth. The reason that the swelling, and pain is running up my foot is because, he feels, that I can't walk properly so am stressing other nerves and the pathway is up the leg. My other doctors where puzzled at the swelling going up to mid thigh and though blood clot but luckily it was not that and I have a very good pulse in both feet. He gave me Cortisone shots in both feet and I can actually put my foot on the floor without screaming. The pain is not totally gone and am still having problems with the outer three toes on the right foot. But am at least feeling 50 per cent less pain and will take that for now.

We talked about if the shots would bring out the RSD and he felt, that even if it did it would only be a temporary flare but didn't guarantee that the shots would work at all so am happy with this doctor. I go back in three weeks and am hoping that he will try to figure out the swelling, (ruddy edema from stage three RSD?) that I have had on the side of my right foot for 14 months now.

Laurie, I am sorry to hear that you have the intense brning in your hand..I hope with time it will clear up and not be a permanent thing. I am glad that even though you are in pain that you are still being active...it does help to have animals around to make you do things you may not want or feel up to doing. I know if I didn't have kids I would get a dog to make me get up and go for walks. unfortunately since my dog who was almost 15 was put down last march both my kids have now become allergic to dogs...the dr told me that having the dog in the house all these years was like giving them allergy shots and they could handle being around him. My cat is 10 yrs old now and I hope they don't get an allergy to cats after shadow is gone because I love animals so much and love havig them as one of the family. Hope you get some relief from the pain....Hugs..GinnyRoepkelaurie@... wrote:
