Guest guest
Dawn, Wine (not just Merlot) " can " help with DP, but it's one of those YMMV things. Some have reported that taking a glass of wine at bedtime lessens their DP. Give it a try. It works to help DP (or bg's at any time) by the alcohol suppressing the liver's ability to pump glucose into the blood. The cardio-vascular benefits (helping BP, etc) are linked to the reservatrol in wine, & the " reds " have the most reservatrol: Pinot Noir is one of the highest (Merlot, not so much), but for me, it's an acquired taste that I'm struggling with!!! Merlot has less red, so less reservatrol, hence less cardio benefits, as I understand it, but will still help lowering bg's caused by a " liver-dump " . These explanations are brief & simplified about what's going on, " just the basics " . , T2, dx'ed 4/98, controlling up to now with LC & Supplements Average Fasting bg 105mg/dl, Last HbA1c 6.0% (10/20/05) Talked my Dr into prescribing Metformin & Glyburide to get HbA1c nearer 5.0% No Medical Qualifications-Only Experience Living With & Controling my DM I have been reading the thread about Merlot and I want to be sure I understand. Is one of the ideas behind Merlot that it helps with DP? Does it help with the liver releasing glucose? I saw the recent post about how it can help the heart and blood pressure and I need help with that as well so I thought maybe I should try the Merlot Therapy for myself :-) I know YMMV - I was curious as to how many ounces and when is the best time...right before bed? with dinner? I'd like to drink wine with the highest content of resveratrol. Do you have any data showing the relative resveratrol content of different wines, or the effect they have on HDL?
