With the bg' #'s you quote, your husband's HbA1c " shouldn't be " 7.5%---

That said, what could be wrong with this picture?

1) As you suggest, the lab may have screwed-up. Perhaps getting one of those

" home " HbA1c tests would confirm or refute the lab's results.

2) Your meter may be reading low. Have you used your " control solution " to

see if the readings are within the limits? Has he taken his meter with him to

the Dr's office & checked it against the bg #'s they get when testing him

there. I did this last week & found my meter checked within 2mg/dl of the Dr's

value. Have your test strips been properly stored, sealed & not exposed to

extreme temperatures?

You are quoting 2-hr post-prandial bg readings. Perhaps you should test at

1, 2 & 3 hours to find the peak bg spike as you may be missing it. Carbs can

spike bg's pretty fast & that would show at 1-hour better than 2. Or, if he is

having digestive problems such as gastoparesis (delayed stomach-emptying)

then the peak could be later than 2 hours.

7.5% is definitely diabetic, but the bg #'s you are seeing definitely

aren't, so you need to explore where the discrepency is coming in.

>>> Hi. I'm the newbie that has the diabetic dad and maybe diabetic

husband. My husband's before breakfast numbers are between 104 to

119. 2 hrs after breakfast, his numbers are 95, 98, 110 and 135. His

before dinner numbers are 89 to 98. 2 hrs after dinner are between

112 and 123. His HBA1c has gone from 5.9, to 6.3 and now 7.5! We are

wondering if the lab might be messing up and want a test with a

different lab. <<<
