Federal Relay is used for communicating with Government offices. The Federal Relay CapTel trial, is pretty much restricted to Government Employees. (I have a friend who works on an army base, who is part of the trial)

Cap Tel Trials

Crew,

Thought this might be of interest to some. Marie, was it you who gave me Barb Dreyfuss' name and email? Can't remember who she is ??? Evidently connected to Ultratech....Can anyone clarify the distinction between the Federal relay trials and the state ones?

Marie, I'm with you - I want to find some way to find out how to push for this in NYC. Bright ideas are very welcome!

Barbara B

Thank you for your inquiry. At the present time New York is not one of the trial states. We will add your name to our inquiry list and keep you appraised if anything becomes available in New York.

Barbara Dreyfus

A second email:

Hi Barbara,

By any chance are you employed at either NTID or RID? If so, you could be eligible to participate in the Federal Relay Trial be offered in conjunction with Sprint.

Dear Barbara Dreyfus,

I have been hearing that a small number of states are doing trials on Cap Tel - and I'm also hearing rave reviews about it. Could you tell me whether NY is doing a trial and whether there is any way I could participate?

Thanks,

Barbara

We;; I wrote to all the members of the PUC, and all members of the Relay Advisory Board; the chairman of the Advisory Board wrote back to me, I hooked him up with Ultratec, they sent him a video, and then he had a meeting with Ultratec rep and land trial reps there; things look good now. But I understand there may be limited slots open for testing now. Mabe Ultratec is going to get ready to market it? I don't know. Marie

Marie, from what I understand, the CapTel trial only lasts

through March of this year. I don’t know when they will stop

accepting new testers. When the trial is over, we will have to send our

units back to Ultratec.

The one here in Oregon is until July 31st. Yes, after that we are expected to return it... but I'm hoping they give us testers a discount.:)

The one I received ends in March also, the literature lead me to believe that when the trial ends, we will be given the option to purchase the unit or return it. Since the units will be "used" and we participated in the test, I'm expecting at least a slight discount.
