Guest guest
That's good to hear. I hope to do the same thing. get my numbers under control. Shauna, I don't have a set answer based on nutritional expertise, but I can tell you that after being on the low carb diet, even without watching fat intake to any extent, my cholesterol and triglycerides went way down and my good to bad ratio improved. I guess what I am saying is that in my opinion, the first most important thing is to get the bg numbers under control and then see about the rest of it. Someone else may have specific advice regarding how much fat we need or should have.

Guest guest
Shaunna Last year after knee surgery I was told to lose weight urgently. The surgeon suggested changing endocrinologists (from the free hospital service to a young chap in privat practice). The new endo looked at my WOE - and BGs etc and suggested that I limit my intake to less than 1000 cal a day and no more than 10 percent of calories from fat. Carbs (already low GI) and proteins - around 45 percent. By 6 months I had lost over 22 pounds. Of course YMMV. I would not be doing this alone - having professional supervision is important. Bea Shauna Ryall one goal I would like to set up is a fat intake - I know we need SOME > fats in our daily diet - but how much do we NEED? Guest guest
OK, the main thing is that not all fats are then same. Highly marbled meat, for instance, is what we should avoid. Olive oil, though, is a good fat. So, as with carbs, there are good and bad fats. BUT fats don't really lead to high cholesterol as the " authorities " have claimed since 1943, it's bad carbs that do so. Very controversial item here over the years. Guest guest
That is the first time I've heard that - can you elaborate or do you have reading on it? Sounds interesting. Guest guest
Certainly. It's a main idea with Dr.Bernstein, and you can read about it on his website at: http://www.diabetes-normalsugars.com/index.shtml There is an article listed there that points it out from a slightly different direction, called " CHOLESTEROL THEORY WIPES OUT HUMAN RACE " , found at: http://www.diabetes-book.com/articles/PressRelease04092057.shtml Also see " The Cholesterol Myths " at: http://www.ravnskov.nu/cholesterol.htm Ted Quick --- Sandy skemp4@...> wrote: > That is the first time I've heard that - can you elaborate or do you have reading on it? Guest guest
Very interesting . . . . reaffirms my believe that I will not take statins. Think I'll have a burger for dinner :oD Sandy Re: Daily Fat Intake amount? Certainly.
