So now I'm wondering which it was. ? sky Intaxication: Euphoria at getting a tax refund, which lasts until you realize it was your money to start with. http://www.skydor.com http://www.skydancers.com
Guest guest
, are you going to try and wait it out - and chance tetany? Or will you be going back on meds and calcium? I do not see any effects on my bgs from calcitriol, or calcium, for that matter. By keeping my calcium between the low 8s and the low 9s I have no brain fog either. But I do take HCTZ to help the kidneys return calcium to my system and that does raise bgs; however, only in a small way. I have idiopathic edema and was taking furosemide before the TT, but that pushed out too much calcium and I wound up in ER twice. It also did not have a large effect on my bgs. Yes, that's what I thought. Glad to hear I was right (for a change). 8-) On the other hand, ADA's meals seem to be more in the 70 - 80+ carbs per meal range. At least the few I've read. sky

Guest guest
, all diuretics can increase bgs. As a diabetic, it is even more important for you to keep your bp in a good range. Going to an ACE inhibitor or an ARB will give you a double benefit: Good for bp and kidney protective. According to my endo, 25mg of HCTZ is enough for the calcium issues. Taking that amount gives you another double benefit: It will help the kidneys hold onto calcium and it will work synergistically with an ACE or ARB. You might try some cod liver oil and some sunshine, if you can get it, to up your vitamin D levels. This may help with the calcium retention until you get calcitriol. I started with 200mg of calcitriol and 1800mg of calcium when I told the endo I had waited long enough to see if my paras would bounce back. Twice in the hospital for tetany and mag infusions burn. Not to mention over 12 hours there. About a year later I dropped to 150mg of calcitriol, same calcium. A few months ago I pushed her to further lower the calcitriol and I began spilling calcium, so we lowered that too. I am taking a gram a day. Last calcium test was 8.2, no symptoms of tetany. I also take mag. When I see my endo in Jan, I will ask again about a 24 hour collection. At this level of medication, I seem to be stabilized. Now if I could only get my bgs there! Using byetta for five weeks seems to have changed something. Either my pancreas itself or my IR. I am calculating new insulin parameters; but am not able to get the morning numbers down where I want them. Helen

I was given the extended release metformin and never had any digestive problems with it. All I can remember is that I didn't have much of an appetite for awhile, which allowed me to lose weight. Once a my doctor (former doctor, now) wrote the prescription instead of his nurse practitioner and he wrote it for regular metformin. I took it for a few days until I got the prescription straightened out but didn't have any upset with that. My stomach growled a lot, though. Now I take 2000mg of the metformin XR (or ER) just before bed. sky Beezlebug: Satan in the form of a mosquito, that gets into your bedroom at three in the morning and cannot be cast out. http://www.skydancers.com http://www.skydor.com

Guest guest
Helen/: I am interested in your discussion, not sure what started it as I missed a lot of postings while " disconnected " I am also not sure altogether what you are talking about, but having been recently diagnosed with Osteoporosis, and having not found any way to stop the muscle cramps, mostly in my toes or calves - but also in my hands at times; I find any mention of Calcium, Magnesium, & Vit D. " right up my alley " (I have had fewer cramps with the use of Quinine) I am still awaiting blood work results from November 4th as well as HBA1c and other bloodwork done a few weeks before that. When I saw my doctor on Nov 4th - the previous tests had not arrived, so she had me do a whole bunch more at the hospital that day. she was supposed to call me with results - I am still waiting! Left her a message, but the secretary said she may not be in until Monday now. I know that Thyroid and Parathyroid were some of the tests & Calcium levels of course. Does any of this resonate with what you are discussing? CJ
