Just saw a little rundown on T2 on CBS's morning show. All that " dr "

did was go through the complications, the symptoms, urge screening over

45 and earlier in the presence of risk factors. Oh, and she also blamed

T2 on (Now, Don't Shoot The Messenger - I am only repeating what I just

now heard on CBS - and am not expresssing any personal opinion or belief

whatsoever) obesity and sluggish metabolism - no mention of any genetic

component - AGAIN, Don't Shoot The Messenger - that would be...

Well, personally, I don't know of anyone in my family who was ever dx'd.

That doesn't mean that there is no predisposition to diabetes, just

that no one we know of was dx'd. I'm less interested in where it came

from than I am in controlling it. It just seems to me that once we've

got the darn disease it doesn't matter whether genes play a part in it,

or long-term menu choices caused it - the treatment is the same no

matter what - you change the way you eat, start exercising and take meds

or insulin or whatever you have to do. I do think it's strange that

I've never heard any authoritative claim that genetics are the main

cause of diabetes. Now, that doesn't mean that the claim has not been

made by some authoritative source - it only means that I haven't come

across it.

Not sure what is " authoritative " or if genetics were ever called the " main "

cause of diabetes. But here's a URL or two:
