Thanks, , the fatty Liver is why I was thinking about trying metformin, but

when I read the contraindications, I stand a greater chance of lactic acidosis

because of my decreased kidney function.

I can comment on the liver issues. As a person with a history of

liver disease, I was also concerned about the metformin. My

gastroenterologist, internist and hepatologist all agreed that the

metformin would be a good thing. I do not have fatty liver disease,

but when they thought I did they said it would help that condition as

well. Even without FL, they felt the metformin would help take some

of the work load off my liver as well as help the BG issues. My

internist, who is one of the most cautious doctors I have ever met,

was completely unconcerned about starting me on metformin in November

after I had a bout of drug induced hepatitis in August. Mind you, he

is still monitoring LFT's Q2weeks for awhile to be safe. I am also

one of the lucky ones who has not suffered the GI distress. Of

course, my dose is still low at 500, but it is working already.
