Guest guest
Vanadyl Sulfate Could be dangerous Banaba Leaf I am just researching this Bitter Melon (I read taking this can affect the sugar in the urine test?) My husband uses this, the effect is difficult to quantify as I have him on several things. We are not even sure he is diabetic, his last A1c was 5.1. Gymnema I am taking this as part of a combination capsule put out by Swanson that also contains cinnamon and mulberry. I feel it helps. Fenugreek No discernible difference Bilberry Good for the eyes, I am taking this with lutein Niacinamide My bil is taking this and the hot flushing is unbearable; it hits him like an itch which is constant. If you are interested in lowering cholesterol, I would suggest policosanol and/or red yeast rice. Helen
Guest guest
> Vanadyl Sulfate > Banaba Leaf > Bitter Melon (I read taking this can affect the sugar in the urine test?) > Gymnema > Fenugreek > Bilberry > Niacinamide I'm giving my husband quite a number of supplements. Because of his family history, I've had him taking chromium picolinate for a number of years. That's considered one of the most important supplements for diabetes and it's not on your list. After his diagnosis last spring I added a number of supplements including a combo pill for diabetics. I have not added banana leaf (not heard of it). I bought a bitter melon once but forgot to cook it before it rotted. I give him a vanadyl sulfate pill daily. Gymnema is in the combo pill. I give him a niacinamide pill daily. I add cinnamon to " everything " and his tea is cinnamon apple with a cinnamon stick in the cup. I also give him ALA, CLA, and just started him on a bit DHEA. He's been on L-Carnitine (for his heart) for some time. Ah, yes, CoQ10. We are both on general nutritional supplements such as a good B vitamin combo, multi-mineral, vitamin C, vitamin E, fish oil, etc. Poor guy with all those pills! I must say he hasn't bitched about them in months. Ever since he got the A1c of 5.1 after 10.5 at diagnosis 4 months before. Whatever I do must be right, huh? OK, he's on a lowish carb diet as well. Trouble is I don't know what things are effective or most important because I haven't done experiments. And an experiment on one person would be very difficult. For example, he's a bit up this week and we don't know why. If I had cut out some supplement as a test, I'm sure we would say AHA, that was it! Also, at least some supplements surely are not instant but more long term in effect. So since I can afford these things and I don't think they are harmful to him in the quantities I'm giving him, I will continue. I'm not going to talk about safety. I consider myself pretty conservative and am very conservative about herbals because we really don't know what or how much they contain. Although they may say vanadium is in a lot of food, I believe that much of our food is grown on totally devalued soil these days. Many things are poisonous in sufficient quantities, so it is of course important to know not only what you are taking but whether the amount is safe and effective. Guest guest
Interesting that this topic should come up. Just today a friend of mine with Diabetes Type II wrote me that he is having great results with the " Food Matrix Diabetic Pack " supplements. Have any of your heard of this? He said that he's been taking them for several weeks and that it is definitely and impressively lowering his bg readings. After not being able to get his numbers lower than 130 with diet and exercise, he says he is now hovering around 100. I told him I would check with you all to see what you know about them. > How many of you take the following supplements and if so, have you > felt it helped? If not, is there a health reason (like you have read > it is dangerous, etc) that you would not take it? > > Vanadyl Sulfate > Banaba Leaf > Bitter Melon (I read taking this can affect the sugar in the urine > test?) > Gymnema > Fenugreek > Bilberry > Niacinamide > > ~Sandy

Guest guest
Vanadyl sulfate is a heavy metal and can build up in both tissues and organs. Its use, last time I checked, was considered controversial. Since there are a great many supplements that can lower bgs, one way or another, without any known complications, why take a chance? Guest guest
So is chromium, but both are essential to our bodies. The question is how much you take in -- as with most things. > Vanadyl sulfate is a heavy metal and can build up in both tissues and > organs.
