Guest guest
Donna is swamped right now, as her husband has recently had surgery, etc. Give her about a month, and then try her again. I would also recommend you to NF Inc. with headquarters in land, near DC. How old is your daughter? Marie New Member Kathy Drummond > My name is Kathy Drummond and I live in Yorktown Virginia. Guest guest
Hi Marie, My daughter is 15. She had the AN (4cm in size) on her right side removed on March 21st since the hearing in that ear was gone. Dr. Prass did the surgery. He did a great job. They aren't going to touch the other side unless she has further complications. She is losing her hearing in her left ear faster then we had anticipated. We are taking sign language classes now as a family. The one problem she is having that nobody seems to be able to explain is the foot drop she is experiencing. (left foot) The weird thing is she walked fine right after surgery. The foot drop didn't appear until 2 to 3 weeks after surgery. It is getting a little better but for a 15 year old not being able to walk right is a big deal. I have been reading several messages and several people have mentioned that balance problems are common after AN surgery. Has anyone else experienced problems with foot drop and will it get better. Thanks Kathy New Member Kathy Drummond > > > > My name is Kathy Drummond and I live in Yorktown Virginia. My email > > address is k.m.drummond@... Guest guest
Hi Kathy, have no experience wiht footdrop, sorry. but, I'll go out on a limb here and say that I very much doubt an AN surgery would lead to footdrop, spinal yes, AN surgery???????? I don't think so. I think foot drop happens in Nf2, unassociated with surgery, although many others would not agree... perhaps to do with schwann cell proliferation, muscle/nerve degeneration...but that is just what I think... but logically, if it is not associated with post-surgery nerve damage, I think you could make foot drop improve....has anybody had any experience of this??? worked on it?? on 14/5/03 5:50 PM, Kathy Drummond at kdrummond15@... wrote: > Hi Marie, > My daughter is 15. Guest guest
Yes, that happened to me at 15 too, my foot dropped 6 months after a surgery that seemed to be unrelated to it,. I am 34 now, the foot just stayed the same after a certain point, not better or worse. Kathy Drummond wrote: > Hi Marie, > My daughter is 15. Guest guest
its so common too, without polling Id bet 95% here have foot drop. just a guess. my dr shrugged his shoulders yrs ago when I asked. interesting my GOOD foot is a bit not right too but its the opposite, hard to flex downward instead of upward, it is holding its own for now and I think actually compensates for the other. Guest guest
I have foot drop in my left foot. I see a chiropractor once every two weeks. He adjusts me and I walk better. He works with my foot for a little while also. It helps to spell the alphabet with your ankle. That sounds funny but it strengthens the foot. I just had a baby so the weight gain all in the front has made my drop foot worse. I am working on getting it better slowly. Exercise helps a TON. There is one specific weight machine that sits on your shoulders and you lift up with your feet. I don't know the name of the machine but as long as I was working out at least three times a week I walked better. During my pregnancy I was given an AFO - Drop Foot Brace to wear so I would not fall. All it did really was make my foot more weak because it held my foot up for me without me having to do any work. Guest guest
Once again, I have to be the oddball After my right AN removal (2nd AN) I had drop foot. They fitted me with an brace which I hated but it helped some. There were times when I couldnt wear the brace (such as skiing) and times when I just didnt wear the brace , and a year after the surgery, my drop foot was pretty well gone. I can move the foot in any direction but I cannot wiggle the toes, so I still have problems sometimes. But at least in my case, it was possible to regain a lot of the strength in the drop foot. Pete Re: New Member Kathy Drummond rosemary once that foot drops I dont think can get it back, just my opinion. mine dropped out of the blue too. the good news is I can walk without a foot drop brace. Guest guest
You need to ask this on the Crew; I do not have drop foot, but MANY people do; some wear braces, others have done different things. There is a lot of experience out there. Marie New Member Kathy Drummond > > > > > > > My name is Kathy Drummond and I live in Yorktown Virginia. My email > > > address is k.m.drummond@...
