Good genes is the lucky part but it also helps to have common sense

which seems so lacking in younger folk. No I'm not knocking the

younger ones they may be old someday to if they have good genes and

apply common sense.

Maybe you just haven't noticed life getting easier. Going down hill is

easier than going up.

I'm just a baby at 51, but I've been taking hormones most of my life, so

here's my $0.02 worth:

After menopause (I was early), I started losing bone density at an

alarming rate. Also, my previously controlled migraines and depression

were getting uncontrolled again. I had read alot about hormones, and

decided that if I needed to take them, it would be bio-identical and NOT

PREMARIN.

My doctor agreed, and I have been on 0.5 mg estradiol before bed for

about 1.5 years now. The migraines and depression cleared right up, and

my last bone density text (Dexascan) showed that I had actually

REMINERALIZED! That's right, without Fosamax or other similar meds, I

had not just stopped the bone density loss but actually reversed it, to

the point where several places were normal and only one spot showed a

lower than desired bone density. For those three reasons, I will

continue to take the 0.5 mg estradiol.

I am T2, fat, and sedentary (CFIDS), and there is plenty of heart

disease on both sides of my family. But my doctor approves my taking

this low dose of hormones.

There are many nutritional supplements you can take to affect your risk

of blood clots and stroke, as well as plain old aspirin. If you haven't

had either a blood clot or stroke, I would say to balance the quality of

life improvements with the hormones vs the projected increased risk.

my GP didn't allow me to go onto hormones either

i'm almost all the way thru the hot flashes and side affects of

the 'change of life'............. now i know why it's called 'change of

life' because you won't believe how it will change your life until you

are there!

my mother is in her mid 70's and all her friends are being taken off

hormones and they are going thru all the symptoms that i am going thru

so, hormones only DELAY the inevitible side affects of menopause
