Guest guest
I totally agree CJ. If a person chooses to test only post-prandially, that test cannot be used to make changes/adjustments without knowing where the bg started before the meal (pre-prandial). So, if meaningful changes or adjustments are not going to be possible, why test at all? Testing is perhaps the most important tool in the diabetic's toolkit. It's an education tool that can show what needs to be done, or the results of what has already been done. IMHO, testing post-prandially " only " provides a result that is " interesting " , but not useful & I'd consider it a waste of a strip & with the cost of those things hard to justify (to me). Down off " soap-box " now---Sorry! , T2, dx'ed 4/98, controlling up to now with LC & Supplements Average Fasting bg 105mg/dl, Last HbA1c 6.0% (10/20/05) Talked my Dr into prescribing Metformin & Glyburide to get HbA1c nearer 5.0% No Medical Qualifications-Only Experience Living With & Controling my DM >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>> I agree with the need for pre-prandial testing. Purpose of all testing? To use the results to change diet/exercise/meds to bring BG's into " normal " i.e. non-diabetic levels. My pre-prandial reading determines quantity and quality of food I ingest for that meal. If you do not intend to change your planned eating from the results - perhaps you can forgo the test?
