Guest guest
Hi lin I accept advice from everybody because it never hurts and you don't have to do what they say, unless you want to. > It is possible that someone has indeed joined that group and is harassing > people. If the moderator was any good at his job he would now that you can backtrack who has sent an e-mail quite easily, so if there is somebody harassing members of the group he should do this. Other moderators on that group know how to do it, anyway. > It's distressing to be accused of bad behaviour, but the accuser may > be trying to fulfil their obligation as a moderator and be making an honest > mistake. I asked who I was supposed to be harassing and the moderator wouldn't answer. Plus, he e-mailed me from his home e-mail not the group, so that is suspicious - is he acting on his own without the backing of the other moderators? > Is it possible someone has managed to infect your computer with a virus that > is actually sending out these offensive emails from your computer using your > email address? I have a firewall and constant virus checking on all the time so no viruses, but to make absolutely sure I ran a system check last night and no viruses found. This moderator is English and an ex-policeman as well so he should know that what he is sending to me is libellous. I know who his Internet Provider is so if he sends me anything else I will get in touch with them and let them sort him out. I cant change my e-mail address due to business requirements, so all I can do is screen my e-mails more thoroughly and I have loaded a program I bought last year, that I used to use for dumping Spam previously. Thank you for your advice, because it made me think of things that could have occurred and I also ran a system deletion application that deletes thoroughly all deleted files also, so that my hard disk is clean and clear of any previous viruses that I may have picked up and deleted. Many thanks once again and as I say I accept any advice, because there is usually something that I haven't thought of. Guest guest
The other thing that comes to mind is that since this e-mail supposedl came from the moderators own private e-mail address, which wouldn't be shown to members normally, is it really his? Or is somebody ELSE hiding behind the moderators supposed identity to victimise you? Guest guest
Hi Ted I backtracked it and it was his address - I had a vague memory of what it was like and it tracked back to a site where he is the secretary of group to do with a ship he used to serve on in the Royal Navy. His name was there in plain view, I even checked the site out. He sent this using the e-mail address he uses for contact about the RN site so if he loses that e-mail address he is well and truly screwed. I wonder if he realises how much trouble he could be in with his ISP for this? Thanks for the thought, but as you can tell paranoia has well and truly set in and I am checking everything now. Do you know how to read a HiJack log? Or a StartDrek Log? I ask this because I can...and that is what it would take to find out for SURE if your system is truly CLEAN. You can come up clean of viruses and still have spyware or dialers or a rootkit on your system spying on you. If you would like the help to find out if your system is clean, come visit my forum at http://southernladysecurity.com/forum/index.php where the help is FREE. Guest guest
Liz Thank you for that. I've joined SouthernLadySecurity and posted my HiJackThis log. Even with the firewall, virus scanner and spyware blocker I use from my ISP aren't completely doing the job. Rob
