There are such things as a porcelain crown. I have two.

I also have a gold one. Doesn't seem to bother me.

But be aware of bad habits that the dentist doesn't put

any crown on by using mercury filling material to bond it

on the tooth.

These crowns are expensive, my area charge $1,000 for

1 crown. No that isn't an error.

Yes, there is a " metal free " crown, I had one " installed " this summer on

myself and my husband had his gold one replaced too. I don't remember the

name of the compound, but it looks just like a tooth...they even match the

colors with your otehr teeth (kind of like paint chips...LOL!!!) Anyway, I

think he said it has been " on the market " so to speak, for at least 5 years.

We visited the dentist last week and we do have a cavity that needs

to be taken care. My husband informed the dentist that we

wanted " no metals " . The dentist replied that my son may need a

crown. Can a crown be put in " metal-free? " I won't be at his

appointment with my husband and I'm afraid the dentist may say

something like similar to " he needs a crown now, etc . . . my

husband will not agree to any kind of metal but I'm afraid once they

get in there they may say they don't have a choice.

Is there anything in the files that describes what exactly a crown

is made of or any site I can visit before Thursday.

done at a hospital. He is on an antibiotic for ears/throat and I'm

thinking they may not want to use gas because of the antibiotics.

Reschedule the appointment until after the ears and throat are better

and the antibiotic is done.

I have a crown that is gold. When I got it I was given a

choice of some sort of white plastic thing (sorry I'm not

thinking of the right word), or gold. The crown is on

a back molar, so it gets a lot of pressure (from chewing).

I was told the gold would be " better " from that point of view

-- it is harder, or holds up better with all this pressure.

This was about 4 years ago, and the crown was put in place

by a dentist who doesn't use mercury/amalgam.
