Guest guest
Anybody ever try this gadget out?? This product is AMAZING!!! Dynawrite.... Basically, you type and it talks for you....this is something that would absolutley perfect for me....I could communicate so much more than now...talking to future boss, Dr.'s, ordering food in resturants, nurses in hospitals....the possibilites are endless - my hands are basically in claw like stage and won't improve, that makes it very hard for me to sign, like if we have an interpreter, i can understand what she signs to me, but for me to respond, even spelling a simple word takes so much time because of weakness and inability to flex fingers... - writing, i have a tumor in my right hand at the base of the thumb, i can have it removed but that will kill the thumb and leave it "floppy", I can't hold a pen very comfortably to write, it hurts very much after writing just 1 or two words -talking, you've heard my voice, it continues to get worse and no amount of speech therapy will help, again, a tumor, in the medulla area of the brain (brainstem), I could have surgery to remove this, but this area of brain controlls breathing, swallowing, and all that sort of respitory stuff, so the risks are too great to even attempt surgery... Want to see?? its listed under products at: http://www.dynavoxsys.com -Caren who's dreaming of owning one CarenAnn1977@...
Guest guest
Hi Caren... in Canada had one in Florida at the aldacon, what was it, 3 or 4 years ago? The Ft. Lauderdale one. Do you remember, Cindy? Marie? Maybe not that brand, but a very similar device. Very cool machine! Also, back in, gosh, 93 or 94 I think, Helen Mendelsohn used a device like that when she ( too) held a workshop at the aldacon in Chicago. Jennette ----- Original Message ----- From: CarenAnn1977@... Guest guest
I have seen this work. Yhere is a girl at church that has cerebal palsy real bad. She was born with no muscle contorl hardly at all. We as a group help her in many ways, First a power wheelxchair then a van ect, ect. Well she was very smart thinking wise but she had a hard time expressing herself. She worked with a computer designer at her rehab visits and he came up with a computer for her speaking and spell out words that are on a list. Eventualy she went to collage and stutied to be a legal assistant or smothing like that. Now she is in a big city and lives with another girl that take care of her needs, She is realy doing very well as speaking on her computer to get her words out. Pardon me typing her worss or punching up what ever she wants to say. Name of the computer I don't know or the programer . If you wish to know I can findout but it may take a week or so, BEANS DynaWrite Anybody ever try this gadget out??This product is AMAZING!!! Dynawrite.... Guest guest
Although we have different reasons for needing a Lightwriter, the overall result is the same. I didn't think it would help much at first, but it has been my main communication device for 6 years now. It is slow, but it is better than any alternatives for me. My wife and I can use some signs for short concepts. However, we use the Lightwriter for everything else. My kids are far less intimidated by it than sign. It is very easy to use and you can teach a new person to use it in minutes. Like a VCR or microwave, we have never used 90% of the stuff it can do, but at least it can be setup in a variety of ways. It would be perfect for you. There are several on the market. Ask for demos and try to get one that has a good warranty and servicing as they do fail sometimes. Good luck !!! nichol@...
