They (the company my wife worked for) are saying that people with RSD can not have their nails cut without being totally sedated and can not swim for physical therapy. I know before many of you stated you had your nails cut at a salon.

Hi Dan,

I think that the company needs to get their facts straight. There is no reason against nail cutting, maybe they are under the assumption that if the RSD is in the hand than nail cutting may not be tolerated by the patient but there is nothing saying it cant be done without sedation. As far as swimming, I go to PT and part of my therapy is in the pool! It is a very good workout and makes you use muscles that otherwise would not be used. Someone who cant walk without the aid of crutches, etc., can "walk" in the water with no aid. After being on crutches for almost 5 years its a great feeling to "walk"! Maybe if you got her doctor to write a note about these things that might help. You and your wife take care, Love Jai

Have not met you Dan, but totally agree with Jai on this one. My daughter was in a wheel chair for over 3 months when first diagnosed with rsd, and she learned to walk by being in the pool and other PT treatments and trust me, the rsd is in her feet and my foot and cut my toe nails as does or her husband does when she hurts to much and cannot bend legs well. So might find some information on internet that shows how good pools are and about cutting nails. I do not know how one does that as totally not computer savvy, but others can help you. Take care and have special Christmas Day Celebration.

Hi Dan,

RSD has so many different symptoms and each person reacts differently. I can't tolerate pool therapy as my affected limbs swell up even more than they normally are. After only one session I was asked not to come back. Of course, if I had a pool at home I would still use it anyway.

And I must add that for anyone that has trouble walking horseback therapy does the same thing. It stimulates the same muscles you use when walking when you ride, they say a half hour on a horse is worth three hours of physical therapy exercise done on the mats.
