We also have a 16 1/2 yr old bpdd who will be doing her DBT intake on Thurs. We don't know a whole lot about it (in fact, only what you have typed) and are going on faith in her T and the word of the bp experts here and the net. What you have described is a wonderful help to me. I can guess that the other Toni (Odette) will find your posting a ray of sunshine. Bless you, bless you! Toni Toni, Thanks for replying. I am so glad that I could be of some help. For awhile here, I was feeling a little guilty receiving so much help from everyone here and not being able to contribute back. You made my day!!! DBT intake is Thursday. Does this mean your daughter has already signed the contract for the program? It took us a couple of weeks to get my daughter to sign and they would only accept the children who would commit to the program themselves. For awhile there, her old therapist thought we would have to get a CHIN'S petition. I ended up holding practice driving over her head. She called it a bribe and I kept telling her that I looked at it as a motivator. That there was no way I would drive with her, if her behaviors continued and that driving is a privaledge for responsible, safe people. This did prove to motivate her. In the DBT program here, my daughter could no longer see her old therapist. They required the children to only see a DBT trained therapist-for consistency. My daughter choose to continue her therapy with the DBT trained therapist-instead of returning to her former therapist. Although, she won't admit it, I know she has made many more gains in the past 6 months with this therapist-then what she did seeing the old therapist for 2 years. I need to get back to work. Go figure-working on Memorial Day. Hopefully, you and yours are enjoying this holiday. Thanks again, By the way, DBT did not always go smoothly-it was very challenging for both me, my daughter and my family. Wish I had a little more time right now to explain more.
