Guest guest
If you email me privately, I can give you the name and phone number of the educational consultant in Mass. that helped us find a RTC for our daughter. She is an excellent person to work with. Helen Eby dheby@... Would like some advice My 14 year old adopted daughter was just diagnosed with PTSD and BPD. The only symptoms that she doesn't have of BPD are addictions and self- mutilation. I adopted her when she was 9 1/2 so she has quite a history of trauma and abuse. There are many layers to her problems. Even though she has made progress in the last 5 years, because of her age, I have come to believe that I can't give her what she needs in the way of structure, consistency, and above all safety. Nor can I withstand her rages and disruptions to our home and abuse of our friends and me. I am wondering if anyone in this group has any information about RTC in Massachusetts that they'd be willing to share. Or any information about theraputic schools or programs that have helped your children. Problems? Ask our friendly List Manager for help, @.... Guest guest
Call Dr. Virginia Sherr. She is an excellent psychiatrist, but located in Willow Grove on the north side of Philadelphia. She will be able to give you a lead on a good psychiatrist in Mass. I'd tell you to mention my name, but you don't know my name. You could tell her that a Lyme patient who is a friend of hers recommended that you call her for information. (I am not a patient of Sherr- just know her from medical conferences and research) PJ Sherr, Virginia T. Guest guest
I don't know of anything in Mass. But in Pennsylvania are the Devereaux Schools. Maybe that is close enough? Also, your county social services would have an entire list of RTC's they contract with. It is a public-access document. If you call, they may not know about this list right off, but if you talk with the right person, they can get it for you. Remember, it is public information--part of their accountability. In fact, it should be on their website, under " contractors " or something like that. It SHOULD be very easy for you to find, and is usually a list of more than just two or three-- remember, it is ALL of the private companies they contract for, listed by category. Good luck, liz -- " flgillespie " flgillespie@...> wrote: My 14 year old adopted daughter was just diagnosed with PTSD and BPD. Guest guest
Thank you Liz. Yes, I do have that list, and my daughter is in a special ed day school right now. There is so much variation in the different programs and I was hoping to find one that could address her BPD issues or at least that had experience with BPD kids. Devereaux does have a school near Worcester in MA. Frieda liz e.kerr@...> wrote: I don't know of anything in Mass. But in Pennsylvania are the Devereaux Schools. Maybe that is close enough? Guest guest
Hi Frieda, Definately check it out. I've found good things about the Devereaux schools. They may seem a bit outdated, older buildings etc., but they are good at what they do. liz -- Frieda Gillespie flgillespie@...> wrote: Thank you Liz.
