Guest guest
About 21/2 months ago, I was sitting at the computer and in the blink of an eye my lower legs swelled something awful. At first they didn't hurt, just annoyed me it happened. It was on a weekend and I called my doctors nurse and she suggested I go to the ER. So, I did. They first thought I had a blood clot, but I didn't. And they sent me home to follow up with my PCP. The next morning I called and was worked in. After having several test, she said I had Type 2 diabetes, that was trying to shut down my kidneys. Thus the leg swelling. A few days later I ended up in the hospital for about a week. I almost met my maker. My kidneys were in a bad way, and I never knew I had diabetes. The last labs 6 mos prior was normal. It was pretty ugly there for a while. Through the grace of God and many prayers I pulled thru. My legs are still swollen and at times I can't walk very far on them because they hurt now. I'm not saying you have the same thing, but I'm wandering if they did any test to find out why your legs are swelling. It didn't sound as if he did much. I would take a water pill for a few days and if it doesn't help. I'd go back to your pcp and ask for another evaluation and tests. Just my opinion. I hope all turns out ok with you. He felt my hands and ankles and looked at my legs, and said is wan't anything to really be concerned about. When I had pneumonia this summer I gained 28 lbs of water weight because of the monster steroids I got in the hospital and when I was released. I still have some Lasix, and I'm not sure if I should take any or not? Also, a BIG question..........I've heard that you gain weight in the hospital, because of the IV fluids. Is that true??????? The last thing I need is more edema and swelling of my body. Could someone post a response about that? Guest guest
Wow Sherry, I am sorry you have had to go through all of that. I am so grateful to God that I have beat that issue so far, especially with the weight loss now. Hugs!
