Guest guest
Hi . I can't answer the hyperventilation question personally--I never had that. But I have heard the it's related to stress, which in turn is connected to the adrenals, in one way or other. I am thinking about the fact that you are tolerating the Synthroid better than Armour. Because that means you are tolerating the T4, which is a storage hormone, but not tolerating the direct T3, which is the active hormone. Or, another way of looking at it is that the direct T3 (vs. the T3 made from the conversion of the T4) is aggravating something which is wrong in you. And your challenge will always be to figure out what that something " wrong " is, and correct it. Easier said than done--but I can be hopeful for you!! LOL. Guest guest
Hmm, right about the time I found out I did have thyroid issues, I was hyperT/graves, but waiting on an Endo appt. My breathing wasn't really like hyperventilating, but it was so bad, the nurse at the hospital asked me did I have emphysema, or something. I told her no, I had thyroid problems, but was waiting to see an Endo and she had no idea it could sound like I did. She thought I had asthma. lol. I was also diagnosed with COPD because it was easier than trying to find out what was really wrong. Have you ever had Ferritin tested, or done any adrenal testing? I take adrenal support now, 5 mgs a day, and it's made a world of difference these past several weeks. I didn't do any testing, but this small amt from what I've been told isn't a problem. So far, it's working right along with the naturethroid. SandyE~Houston P.S. Just a tidbit of info, most of us who go hyper were already hypoT, but had butthead dr's who thought that 5.5 on the tsh test was just dandy. hehhe. :-) synthroid question Hi all, I have written here before but not recently. I originally started out with Armour, and quickly learned that I could not tolerate any amount of it as I would have serious hyper symptoms. So I switched to synthroid shortly after. I have been able to tolerate synthroid much better than Armour. My doc said that if I wanted to switch to Armour or part Armour and part syn at any time he would be ok with that. So having said all that I do have this problem that I don't know if it is synthroid related. Not all of the time, but sometimes I have what is like hyperventilation. I feel like I am over breathing. I experience it during the day and also at night while trying to sleep. It may last 24 hours or so, go away for a few days and then come back. I have slowly worked my way up to 100 mcgs of syn. Did any of you have this or a similar symptom on syn and then had it go away on Armour? Any advice would be helpful. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
Hi Sandy, The last time my Ferritin was tested it was above the normal range, but my IRON was in the normal range. The doctor was not concerned about that. You are taking 5 mgs of what? When I take DHEA I get very aggressive, sarcastic, angry, hostile, etc. The " hyperventilating " that I do is all internal. You would see nothing out of the ordinary by observing me breathe. It is hard to describe. > Hmm, right about the time I found out I did have thyroid issues, I was hyperT/graves, but waiting on an Endo appt. Guest guest
Janie, My personal feeling is that I want to get to my optimal dose of synthroid, whatever that may be, and then tweek it a bit with some small amount of Armour or whatever. My endo is very cooperative with me and will do almost anything I ask. I do appreciate your help. in SUNNY Florida > > Hi . Guest guest
I had troubles with Synthroid that were like I was breathing plenty but still could not get sufficient oxygen in. It was sort of like breathing in a vacuum. When I have low adrenal issues, I feel like everthing is racing and my breathing is more like the feeling of taking a fast walk, where I breathe deeper and more quickly to get more air. I would guess that it could be adrenal. You could have T4 building up slightly because your cortisol is low and then the adrenals kind of catch up once in a while and you get a rush of conversion of T4 to T3 and then your metabolic rate really speeds up and you need more air for it. Does this breathing thing happen during periods where you sleep fairly well and and feel well just before? Or it is possible the the Synthroid is not being well converted to T3 because of the adrenal issues and you are starved for oxygen. The reason you tolerate Synthroid better is because it is almost inactive and in low adrenal situations, it would not be converted as much T3 as you get with Armour. That means that it will be easier on weak adrenals. But, the rest of your body can well be deprived of energy and oxygen from low T3 levels. Guest guest
Hi Tish, Well, the night before last I slept really well. I got almost 9 hours in. Then as I was lying in bed yesterday morning I started the breathing thing. It lasted all day getting a little worse in the afternoon. Last night as I was sleeping, it seemed as though my mind was racing a bit. I went to bed at 10 and woke up at about 2:30am. Stayed in bed wide awake until about 4 and then slept until about 7am. I don't seem to be doing the breathing thing so far today. As far as my cortisol. That has always been just ABOVE the normal range. My DHEA at last check was at 330, well within the normal range. > > I had troubles with Synthroid that were like I was breathing plenty > but still could not get sufficient oxygen in. Guest guest
, I do get this winded feeling and I'm on Armour. It mostly happens when I climb stairs. My tests are showing that I'm on the hyper end but I have not hyper symptoms other than being winded when I climb stairs. I don't think it's hyper causing it though as it doesn't happen all the time. Guest guest
Shortness of breath was the thing that got me to the doctor. Because she couldn't find anything really wrong, she drew blood just to see what happened. Lo and behold, I was hypo! My TSH was 6, and she barely thought that worth mentioning. Guest guest
Hey , Have you ever tested your ferritin? When you're low in ferritin you might gasp for air all the time. I had this when I was on synthetic T4, scared to death, it went away with Armour. If you have a low ferritin however, it will be very difficult to switch to Armour. But I have done that despite a lot of heartpalps since my ferritin was < 2 (!!!!). It sounds to me that you have a great doc btw!
