Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I've been catching up on posts, and I started thinking (after reading).... I don't have a recliner chair.... The couch I have is super soft and comfy, but even now at this moment, I have trouble getting in or out of it, whether I'm sitting on it or lying on it.... How long will I need help post-op? My husband has to put in for his vacation time for 2007, in January...for the entire year. Could someone give me an estimate of how long I might need help doing things or getting up or out of bed?????? However, I DO have a body pillow with a nice suede-like cover on it. Could someone explain how it can help me? (I thought I read something about body pillows, but can't remember how it should be used to help). Anxiety creeping up and I don't want it to escalate because I am a nervous type as it is. (I already take Xanax, for my muscle spasms in my back, not as as tranquilizer, so that's not an option). Please help. Thanks in advance! Hugs, Cathy 305/and waiting for a surgery date
Guest guest
I'm totally new here, have never posted before. I had my surgery 7 days ago and I have a 3 year yr. old, I had my siser in law with me and my husband until Sat. am. I was out of the hospital on Tues. the 5th. in the evening. I have a recliner chair and that has been where I am sleeping. I tried the bed, but not being able to stablize my stomach in one position made me move to the couch. (recliner) - I am walking around quite good and getting down all my fluids - so I'd say in your case you might want some help for about at least week or maybe two given what I am going through. I am alone today (1st day) - and it was kinda hard to get on my socks! Take care and hang in there - it's not that bad!!!! > > Hi Everyone, > > I've been catching up on posts, and I started thinking (after > reading).... > > I don't have a recliner chair.... > > The couch I have is super soft and comfy, but even now at this > moment, I have trouble getting in or out of it, whether I'm sitting > on it or lying on it.... > > How long will I need help post-op? Guest guest
Hi Cathy, You'll want to find something that is easy to get in and out of...and that super soft couch aint it. Getting in and out of bed was hard the first 2-3 days..you know, the part from sitting to going flat on your side or back! Yikes! Thats what's nice about a chair or a recliner,,easy in and out. Though being comfortable while your in it is imp. too. If you have a strong arm to help you up, it makes things a lot easier : ) Your recovery time depends a lot on you, your age, etc. But I'de say, generally, help is very nice the first week post-op. You'll be sore and very fatigued at first. Hugs, D. sarrah345 sarrah345@...> wrote: Hi Everyone, I've been catching up on posts, and I started thinking (after reading).... Guest guest
Cathy, I have a reclining leather couch I didn't even use the recliner part of it. I just didn't need too. It will depend on if you are open or lap, and how well you are healing. I had trouble sleeping the first 2 nights at home because I don't sleep on my back. I finally made myself sleep on my side the 3rd night, and each night got better and better. Your body needs to adjust. My surgery was on a Wednesday, I was home on Friday. My husband took off work from Wednesday to that Sunday (he works every other weekend as well). I was home for 2 weeks by myself and I was just fine. I was actually up and walking Wal-Mart the Saturday I got home lol. It will all depend on how you feel. I wish you the best. Guest guest
Cathy take it from a pro at being a worry wart you will be just fine! I have a recliner but didn't use it either. I couldn't use the lever (didn't want to pull on it)on the side to put my feet up or get up. I stayed sitting on my couch with my feet up. My couch is comfy too so I took a stiff pillow and put it behind my back for more support. I spent most of the first couple of days in my cozy bed I have a wedge pillow (for acid reflux) so I used that and more pillows where I needed them and just adjusted them to be comfy. My hubby took off the day of my surgery and was with me after work at home and in the hospital. I slept most of the time in the hospital inbetween walks so I wasnt lonely at all. My surgery was on a Wednesday and I went home on Friday on Tuesday I was walking walmart. I was home by myself for 2weeks and did fine. Just remember to treat yourself to nice sheets, slippers and robe, jammies and comfy socks and you will be on cloud nine. I bet you will do just fine.
