<< I know some of our more studied members could answer this question for me.

Is there a connection and/or correlation between chiari and tethered cord?

Thanks Melody >>

yes there are several ways they MAY be related . Most common I think would be

congential teathering at the lumbar spine through either a thicken filum or a

bifida related problem ...but it doesn't always look like acm 2 when this is

also present .

Eurico's daughter is a great example of Chiari 0 and teathered cord at the

lumbar region for example ...mine was mild bifida stuff and looked odd for

either chiari 1 or 2 but a deep herniation that became pointed with clear

occlusion on CINE MRI despite looking like there might be good flow on

regular MRI with a signifigant herniation .

There are other causes of teathering as well including but not limmited too

...injury of the cord / arachnoiditis / meningitis ect ..

NOT all neurosurgeons understand to check the full spine carefully for signs

of this either .

Not quite for sure, in regards to your Question. I can see, however, where

there might be a Connection, with Tethered Cord, when in the lower Cord,

causing Tethered Cord. But I don't know if this has been proven yet.
