My dh LOVES mexican food. He will eat it every day of the week if I

let him. We have a favorite place we eat at, everyone knows our names

and what we order. LOL I'm assuming that for a LONG time mexican

food is out for me. I noramally get a beef chimi with cheese sauce

(YUMMY). They do offer lo carb like a grilled chicken breast. :)

What about beef or chicken faitias (sp?) Is mexican totally out of my

vocabulary now?

Thanks,

Mexican food (texmex) is my favorite. I've seen many post-ops posting

that they eat it. Some avoid tortillas or chips because of the high

carbs. Rice may be a problem because it can swell and cause problems

in the pouch. Taco meat, fajita meat, refried beans, grilled veggies,

etc. were all OK'ed by my nutritionist once I have progressed past

soft foods.

You could still probably order the chimi but mostly just eat the

insides. You won't be able to hold very much and you'll need to focus

on protein.

Be careful of the high salt/sodium and fat content. The salt will make

you retain water. The high fat/lard in some Mexican dishes will make

make people DUMP!

Rice is something to be avoided. The torillas should be avoided as an

early post op.

Remember: many Mexican dishes are prepared in OIL!!! Calories count. I

recommend losing as much weight as possible in your honeymoon period.

Don't be so anxious to start eating whatever you want so soon after

surgery. Food isn't going away.

You can still have that Mexican dinner with your husband. It's the

social outing and time with your husband that you should focus on NOT

what you are going to eat! Have a bean burrito and don't eat the

tortilla.

chips & salsa since surgery.I found that Tostito's makes Multigrain

tortilla chips. It is a better version in a must have situation. Not

that I am pushing this snack ;o)

Nah I make chicken breast cut up and toss in a package of fajita

seasoning. My kids also love it when I make a roll of ground turkey

burger and taco seasoning. You can get high protein or veggy raps if

you even need them. Mix the meat/seasoning up in a lot of lettuce,

hordes of tomatoes, fat free sour cream, some medium or hot taco sauce,

onions, etc.

Loads of sodium is the only bad thing here and heck that's everywhere.

Oh I eat beans too sometimes. Forgot about that. I make a pretty good

seafood chili mexican thing too. Sometimes it's damned spicy but that

helps me to not eat as much if I'm panting and puffing from the heat.

Baked chips aren't as bad. Still they're really not necessary if you

make good mexican food and concentrate on eating the highest value

chow. Avoid the fried chips. Chips are for suckers. They feel you up

cheap. You're worth more than that, you're not going to eat much, eat

the big money food. If eating out ask that they bring you meat or

veggies instead of chips. Sure they'll charge you a couple bucks but

they're not getting away with giving you crap even if it's free.

I've never eaten the rice much either. I guess I've conditioned

myself from chinese buffets to believe that rice is a scam designed

to fill you up and keep you from eating the crab/shrimp and other

expensive foods. It's the same reason I don't eat pasta much now

either.

Are they baked? Have nutrition data sheet you can share? Is there a

website?

I bought a bag of baked ones but the bags, even of these kinds, are

so big I just get sick of them because I can only stomach one or two

servings and then get bored after 2-3 of those. That usually leaves a

couple left in the bag to get old/stale.

I've been craving the same thing. That's one reason I posted the

question to Mike about the soy crisps. Mostly I want the salsa but

eating it with a spoon just isn't the same. I'm trying to find the

best (or least bad) crunchy for dipping in the salsa.

Hey Mike...Have you ever used the reduced sodium taco seasoning? That's

what I bought before surgery and continue to use now. That regular

stuff is WAY too salty for me.
