Guest guest
I would go w/ the RNY. I considered the lapband; but you have to have fills & such. Plus you don't get the malabsorption like w/ the RNY. You are not restricted in what you can eat w/ the lapband. Only how much you can eat. But the decision is ultimately yours. My boss at work had the lapband. She's now gaining back a lot of her weight. Which can happen w/ either surgery. She's about a year and a half out. But can eat whatever she wants. Guest guest
Congrats on your appt. I also have my first appt on Jan. 05 here in Suwanne, Ga I will also be meeting with the dr. I am kinda wondering what he is going to suggest as far as procedures go. I was thinking the lapband but not sure I would liek the constant going back to get it tightened. > > Hey Guys, > I just got off the phone with Donna at Dr. Boyce office in > Knoxville, TN. Guest guest
Dear Sherry, Good for you! Yay! I know how excited you feel! Now comes " the wait " ! I hate the fact that I have to wait. I just want this surgery over and done with, so I can start getting healthier NOW! Coming here really helps me, because I can talk about anything and everything and you all (most of you) understand. The official first support group meeting that involves my surgeon and all, isn't until the third Wednesday in January! I don't know what I'd do without all of you! I know I'd be bouncing off the walls! Nervous Nellie, that's me! I wish you only the best, Sherry! Guest guest
I have read in many occasions that with the lap you don't lose as much as you can with the rny. I need to drop about 120 to 150 lbs. to be in my weight range according to my height and build. Thanks > > Hey Guys, > > I just got off the phone with Donna at Dr. Boyce office in > > Knoxville, TN. Guest guest
Thanks Cathy, I still have a long wait ahead. My insurance still requires me to complete 10 of 12 weeks of Weight Watchers with a mininum of 4 lbs to lose. So, far I've lost only 3lbs (before X-mas). So, I still have about 7 weeks left of that to go. My PCP is trying to get that waived though, I hope if I get the go ahead on wls, my PCP can pull that one off. > > > > Hey Guys, > > I just got off the phone with Donna at Dr. Boyce office in > > Knoxville, TN. Guest guest
I always thought my ins would only cover the rny until today. I have researched all possiby procedures. And I think I'm leaning toward the rny, the band I've been told, you don't lose as much and the process is so much slower. And, of course the constant band ajustments. What part of GA is Suwanne in, I have an uncle that lives in Kennesaw. And a very dear friend in Peachtree. > > > > Hey Guys, > > I just got off the phone with Donna at Dr. Boyce office in > > Knoxville, TN. Guest guest
You know not until right now did I think to ask what procedure my insurance would cover. I thought they would cover all but I will need to verify that I guess. Thats the same reason why i wasnt leaning toward the band. DOnt think I would like the adjustments. Suwannee is north of Atlanta probably about and 1 hour or so from Kennesaw. > > > > > > Hey Guys, > > > I just got off the phone with Donna at Dr. Boyce office > in > > > Knoxville, TN. Guest guest
That would probably be a good idea, so when you see the surgeon, you'll be able to let them know what's covered for you. Keep us posted on how it goes. Sherry > > > > > > > > Hey Guys, > > > > I just got off the phone with Donna at Dr. Boyce > office > > in > > > > Knoxville, TN. Guest guest
I thought I wanted the lap band, but my surgeon recommended the RNY for me, because of the amount of weight I wanted to lose, and because of the dumping, as a behavioral modification technique, since I have a sweet tooth. If you trust your surgeon, I would do what they would recommend, myself. Guest guest
The patient coordinator for my surgeon kept pushing the lapband. But I knew that wasn't right for me. She had had the lapband. My main problem wasn't eating too much it was just WHAT I was eating. The lapband won't help w/ that. Guest guest
I have to agree with here. My surgeon told me the very same thing for me and that is the road that we took. Guest guest
I have never been sorry that I had the RNY and it does come off quicker with it and with the lap band, you have to be much more careful with what you eat because your body will absorb everything that you put in your mouth. Guest guest
Thanks , My problem is I don't eat enough or regularly, so when I do eat my body holds on to the nutrition and that's why I've gained so much. I've known this for a long time, but didn't care. Now I have developed so many health problems I have to care and I'm trying to learn to eat on a regular basis. The foods I ate were healthy, I just never got hungry. If that makes any sense. I think I'm leaning toward the rny, I heard you don't do as well with the lapband. > > My surgeon recommended RNY as well and I just went with it and am SO glad I did. > > > > >
Guest guest
Thank you Lin, I think I'm gonna go with the rny. I know Dr. Boyce will probably make that suggestion anyway. > > > > Hey Guys, > > I just got off the phone with Donna at Dr. Boyce office in > > Knoxville, TN. Guest guest
-Hi Cathy and the rest. The book " Weight loss surgery for dummies " really helped me get my head around what would be best for me. I thought the RNY would be, but I did like some of the things about the band. I finaly deciaion was the RNY and I'll be doing that on the 10th of Jan. I have about 100 pounds to lose, most recently gained from an illness and quitting smoking, but it won't go away. I'm going the self-pay way, as I have no patients for waiting because of fear of diabetes (got this thing about needles) I did finally decide on the RNY because of the 60/40 protein/carb ratio. I could stick to that or a life time and still be healthy. I can't eat fruits or salads because of my diease, or coke a cola, chocolate, coffee or anything else really good, so why bother with the hassles of the band. Just hoping for a succssful surgery. It might be a long haul for you but sounds like your reg doctor is really in there pitching it. keep us all updated.
