Guest guest
Has anyone had their child declared handicapped so they could access state assistance to live independently? If so, what did it take and was it beneficial to your child? My daughter's parole officer thinks we should do that for her as he has never seen anyone who is quite like her. She does not have a sound grasp on reality and what it takes to do things. She is now 18 and we would like her to move out but it doesn't look possible. She has quite trying to get her GED and will only hang out with " friends. " She does sit some children 3 days a week, and she is quite good at it, but being able to follow regular adult rules for herself is beyond her. The parole officer said they would help her find housing and she would get medical and food stamps. Her dad is exhausted and angry and wants it all to stop and I would like her to head out in the most successful way that she can. Without help, she will wind up under a bridge or some other less desirable place. Any ideas welcome. Jean C
