So like just about everything involved in this thyroid mess, individuals vary.

It's trial and error. Ugh. I just want to read the Cliff notes and start on my

recovery! Whaaaaaa

Could be -

I wasn't justifying the use of iodine - I was just commenting. the article was

very good - and then I hit the part about the iodine!

If you don't have ANY autoimmune thyroid disease AND have been proven to

have an iodine deficiency, then you would need the iodine. But if Hashi's

is the leading cause of hypo, followed by Grave's (also autoimmune), then

there's definitely going to be a problem there with the iodine intake.

Iodine goes straight for the thyroid, and if the gland is in malfunction

from autoimmune disease, or in certain other cases, the antibody attacks are

going to be ten fold. Also, if there are certain other hypo problems, the

gland will trap the iodine and will puff up the size of your neck. Iodine

trapping is the thyroid's main job, but if it is a sick one, in certain

ways, it will simply trap it and can't use it.

I will never remember - but the time I went to the hospital because my neck was

out to my jaw bone - I wonder if I was eating something with iodine in it.

Interesting thought!

I wonder - if I was to eat iodine now, if that would happen - then, if my

anti-bodies would be up - and if my doctor would say - oh my! you really do have

hashi's and you really do need more meds.... interesting concept!

I remember a LONG time ago when my Mother had iodine injected for a scan at

the hospital.. she blew up all over and had to have a breathing machine for

the rest of the day she reacted so badly to the iodine. I don't think I

would want to play with it to find out! LOL

Oh wow! You have just triggered a memory for me. Just before I went hyper I

had to have a kidney scan. They were supposed to inject iodine into a vein but

they missed the vein and it went into a muscle. My whole arm swelled up and

burned like crazy. They had to pack it in ice. Now I am wondering whether

that could have triggered my hyper episode?

interesting - when I had a scan, they asked me if I was allergic to iodine! I

said I didn't think so - I can eat shrimp, but not crabmeat - (with alcohol).

(questions they asked). So - they gave me something different than the iodine,

just in case. I'm thinking I'm glad!!!

People do need iodine. Look at 3rd World countries, they have massive

iodine deficiencies. However, people with Hash's have gotten an overload

of it, that's why they need to get it of their diet. I wish I could

remember which book had that info in it. I'll take a look....
