Guest guest
Hi Kim, Enjoy that Orange Roughy! It sounds divine!!!!!! (I'm not a cook, so most anything made from " scratch " sounds good to me!) I'm sure that after I have surgery, and hubby and I visit my family on Sundays, (dinner usually...) that they will do their best to accommodate my dietary/beverage needs. They currently make sure I have something to drink that I like. They all drink soda, and I hate soda. I either drink Vitamin Water, Crystal Light, or bottled water. It would have been nice if your family considered what you HAVE to eat or are ABLE to eat, and not have you over and " dangle " the food you can't have over your head (or on the table---LOL). Kim, you are doing wonderfully, post op! I hope that I will have the same success as you have, when my surgery comes up. Soon! Eat your Orange Roughy and savor every bite, and don't share!!!!!!! Hugs and love, Cathy waiting for Jan. 5! > > I am feeling a bit hurt.My family usually has Fried Fish, some years > we had baked too & Pieroghis on Christmas eve dinner.Well this > year,my mom is making ONLY fried Fish, potato salad and macaroni > salad. They know this is not the best for me but it seems like no one > cares.I even mentioned I cannot or should not eat it. > > I went and bought some Orange roughy & I baked it with some > Mushrooms & Langostinos.Used some lemon juice,White cooking wine,a > bit of margarine, garlic powder,& black pepper. After it was done > baking I added some finely grated Asiago cheese on top. > > It looks & smells like something from a gourmet resturant & I'm not > sharing,LOL!Actually there isn't enough to go around.Just enough for > 1 small serving.Perfect for me. > > Does anyone else have family who tries to accomodate your food needs? > > Kim > RNY 6/23/06 > (6 mo post op) > 298/206/135 >

Guest guest
PICTURES!! and/or recipe please. I'll try it myself but I like a recipe for consolation and comfort. My parents are really my only family that have a choice and they buy crap. They don't read labels when they shop. It's horrible. I try to bring food over and shop for them. My kids support me fully. Well I should say they tell me what they like and don't like. They love Boca Burgers and Healthy choice fudge bars. In fact, whatta know, that's what we had to eat today. YUM!! If I have someone who doesn't support me well then I try to talk with them and I buy food and feed them/me myself.

Guest guest
We had Christmas Dinner tonight, and yes, my mom and sis accomodated my new lifestyle. They made everything low fat/sugar free, and it tasted wonderful. Of course we have to go back in time two months ago, when I told both of them I needed special meals. I took the time to search bariatric friendly recipes for the old standbys, and then I mailed them each copies. We had turkey breast; we had sweet potato custard made with Splenda (my sister put marshmallows on one side and pecans on the other); we had corn bread stuffing; " Devil " eggs made with out sugar; we had mashed potatoes made with skim milk/fat free chicken broth; and the list goes on from there... Anyways, it sounds like you had the better meal, but that still doesn't make you feel any better. I am sorry your feelings were hurt, and as a female I would have felt the same way. Maybe next year, you can host the meal and make anything you like, or you can provide them with healthy alternatives to make. lisamathis > I am feeling a bit hurt.My family usually has Fried Fish, some years > we had baked too & Pieroghis on Christmas eve dinner.Well this > year,my mom is making ONLY fried Fish, potato salad and macaroni > salad.

Guest guest
I have to agree with Mike here and actually my mom was a little overbearing about what I could and the amount of sugared things like sweet pickles that were going in her pasta salad which I thought was a little dry for my taste. It need either more Miracle Whip or Mayonnaise and her carrots were great because she marinated them in sugar free orange marmalade, which she was worried about because they had five grams of carbs in them and I told her that was the natural sugar from the oranges and not to worry about it especially since it was totally sweetened with splenda, but it is really nice that they are concerned enough with what I have already been through to worry about things like this. Guest guest
Hey Kim, I'm sorry your family is not thoughful of your needs. My family is pretty great. I've not had the surgery yet, but we do have a large extened family get together at holidays. There is a few diabetics, heart patients, high cholestrol, etc. and food allergies to strawberries, peanuts, apricots, and chocolate. So, we all are very considerate of each others needs. I don't think I'll have a problem with them after surgery. Try not let it get you down. Maybe they will come around by next year. > > I have to agree with Mike here and actually my mom was a little overbearing > about what I could and the amount of sugared things like sweet pickles that > were going in her pasta salad which I thought was a little dry for my taste. > It need either more Miracle Whip or Mayonnaise and her carrots were great > because she marinated them in sugar free orange marmalade, which she was > worried about because they had five grams of carbs in them and I told her > that was the natural sugar from the oranges and not to worry about it > especially since it was totally sweetened with splenda, but it is really > nice that they are concerned enough with what I have already been through to > worry about things like this. > Lin > 422-338-250 > Lhsh@... > American by birth, > Saved by the grace of God. > > Re: A bit hurt... > > > Kim, > Sorry you have this issue.......my family is awesome about the family > meals. Guest guest
Thanks Cathy.I think it hurts most that at a time like this that I really need my family support & I feel its just not there.I was also offered Fried Breaded Cauliflower,by my mom.She just doesn't think or care I guess. My creation was awesome & I did have alot left over which I offered tastes to all but they were all full from gorging on the fried junk. Happy Holidays! Guest guest
Hi , I have found that many times our families do things without thinking or meaning to do them. Maybe you can just point it out to whoever's house you are going over to. Tell them, You know, I don't know if you realize it or not but the food items you prepared were not things I could eat. Maybe they didn't think about it. Or you could suggest a potluck type thing. I found I like to do that because than you know there will be something there you can eat. Take Care, In CA

Guest guest
Hi Tracey,I spoke to my mom today & really pointed out that nothing she made was oK for me.She said I guess we will have to get together then & discuss what you can have.I told her it would probably be easire for her if I just cooked for myself.I feel selfish for even bringing it up now.
