Guest guest
Wow, , what a good job you have done!!! In just one year, too! I bet people are shocked when they see you! I bet you feel much better, too. That's what I want more than anything, to just FEEL better. Joanie
Guest guest
Wet finger in the air here too . I asked my PA at my one month appointment for my goal weight. He responded, " Well what do you want to get down to? " Ok Mr. Funny Man! We, too, examined the BMI chart and he told me how even he is overweight for BMI charts. Now there's some irony there! We settled on 220-240. Heck I'm pretty happy where I am at 275. I'm wearing a freaking cashmere sweater today and to the unofficial company Christmas party at a local tavern. I stole it from my father because it's too small for him. Unfortuantly I think it's a little too big for me. DRAT. Still looks damn nice though. I guess the one thing I can see myself doing more easily if I get to goal weight is jogging/running. But then I can really do that now if I just put my mind to it and I don't. I need to. I guess I don't really have a goal weight but that's okay because I don't have a scale anyway. Mike in GR > > My doctor didn't give me a goal weight. She showed me the chart and basically said, you won't necessarily get to the chart and shouldn't expect to, and told me about the 18 months weight loss period and broke it down into 6 months increments. I chose a goal weight based on a weight where I previously felt good about myself and was very healthy (hopefully that wasn't because of youth). > > How did you guys choose goal weight, or did your doctor choose one for you? > > __________________________________________________ >
Guest guest
Well for me i had an about number in my head of about 159, my regular doctor and surgeon both felt 165 would be an ideal weight for me....so i just did my thing. I have been unable to break thru 167 and thinking this is were my body wants to be. I started at 310 so thats a great accomplishment. I fit in size 8 clothes and im very happy at my current size. SO i think for me i had to see as i went were i was happiest and didnt really make up my mind till i was there. I know if i loose more its just gonna give me hanging skin and then people are gonna say im not well. so im done were i am. > > My doctor didn't give me a goal weight. Guest guest
My doctor just told me where he thought I would end up. I started out at 298 and he said I would probably end up at 150-160. I got to 147 by my 9th month. I am going to be 1 year tomorrow and I just weighed this morning and I weigh 132! So... I guess I would say you lose until you can't lose anymore! I don't really want to lose anymore though. I have slowed down now and my doctor said that towards the end of your weight loss you may gain a few lbs back and then level off. Guest guest
Go, , GO!!! You are my role model, and how I want to be when I get my surgery (whenever that may be. I'm going nuts waiting to hear on insurance, and with the holidays fast approaching, no doubt things will be slow.) You did incredibly! Did you do anything different from what most do? Did you stay on just shakes for a long time? Were you intolerant of solids/meat? I'm just wondering why you had such incredible loss compared to others. --Cat > > My doctor just told me where he thought I would end up. Guest guest
Hi Joanie, Yes the change is amazing. My pictures are posted on the board. I have seen people that hadn't seen me for a while and they literally do not recognize me. My own father and stepmother said they wouldn't recognize me if I walked by them on the street! My boss didn't know it was me until I started talking. It is so great to see the looks on peoples faces! Priceless! I didn't tell a lot of people that I was going to do the surgery so once I started to lose weight, people were like " Wow! What are you doing? " And I would just tell alot of them " I've been eating alot less " This surgery is truly amazing and I am so glad I was able to get it done. I have never been this small in my life. It is really funny to have people to call me skinny!! Me? OMG!!! Just hang in there Joanie, your day will be here before you know it! I was so anxious and nervous, I was going crazy with all the waiting and now, here I am a year out and it is GREAT!!! Good Luck to you, I hope everything gets done quickly. Guest guest
Hi Cat, I know what you mean about waiting on the insurance, I was going nuts too! I had to wait 6 weeks for an appt. for my ultrasound. I wanted everything done yesterday. Now that I know more people and how long they have had to wait, I didn't wait too long. I saw my PCP on Aug 23,05. Saw Dr. Suh, the surgeon on Sept. 15,05 and had surgery on Dec.16,05. I am glad I did it. I still can hardly believe I did it because I am a total chicken. But I did it and I am glad. So, just hang in there and don't be afraid to make phone calls, call places if you are waiting on an appt. and see if they have cancellations, call your ins. co to get them on the ball. The squeeky wheel gets the oil! As far as why I have lost so much? I don't know why. I have friends who have the same surgeon and have only lost 90-100 lbs. I also have not been hungry since I had the surgery and my friends tell me they came out of surgery starving!! I did my protein shakes faithfully for 6 months, take my vitamins and do exactly what my surgeon has told me. I have not cheated, nor have I had sugar, thus I have not experienced " dumping " (thank goodness). So all I can tell you, is follow all instructions to the tee. I am 1 year out Dec 16 and I never thought I would get here, but here I am. So just keep your eyes on the prize and your day will be here before you know it. Guest guest
Im alpst right behind you. One year for me will be 24 January. I am at 140 and find that I am still loosing but very slowly. I'm happy at this weight. My surgeons goal for me was 145. I would love to loose that last 5 pounds but if I dont and stay stable at 140 Im happy. , Are you needing plastics? Are you looking into them. I unfortunately need them everywhere but my plastics doctor and insurance company are making me wait a few more months. Guest guest
Thanks for the compliment . I never saw myself as a role model before. I am actually wearing between a size 2 & 4 depending on the cut. I am 5'8 " so I am kind of tall so that helps! Take Care and good luck to you, in CA __________________________________________________

Guest guest
Hi Marilyn, As far as needing plastic surgery, No I don't really need it. My skin has done really well. I have even had people ask me where all the skin is? I could use a breast lift but I don't have the $$$ to do that and I look okay with a bra on. LOL!!! I don't have a boyfriend or husband now so no one will see me except my kids! LOL! Take Care and congrats to you too! in CA __________________________________________________
