I have to sturdy myself in the shower too. When we had the apartments built we both had showers put in that had seats in them, which was such a good idea! Another odd one is when I am standing at counter , any counter. washing dishes or at the bank, checkout counter. I feel like I am sliding over. some times if I don't move, I will eventually start leaning.. bust be vertigo? PamH

Guest guest
Guys and Gals If your having problems with ballance in the shower ..eyes open OR closed ....PLEASE get either a resin chair ( usually under $10 and lightweight for anyone to move out of their way ) OR a good bath bench and USE em !! Falls in that slipery shower are a great risk for those of us with ballance problems ..and embarising to have paramedics come haul you out for care !! Your risking both a hard head conk and broken bones needlessly ! Grab bars are inexpensive too and can truly save you from falling . I like my bath bench cause I can SIT down before climbing in and instead slide on over into the tub /shower ...a handheld water hose /nosle won't inconvience others using the bath too ..then can hang it up on the showerhead hook or flip a switch to dirrect water to the normal shower head either one ....some have great massage settings too . These too can be used to wash /rinse your hair more safely sitting down . I had an extra " hook " put up for mine so its the right height for hairwashing while sitting down ..that way I don't need to reach up over my head ( doing so reduces the amount of room for csf to flow a bit - in me that equals increased headpresure that can take hours to go back down . ) Bottom line is your safety here ..these modifications are simple and NOT expensive . If your straped for cash and need them check with your independant living center for programs that may pay for em . An occupational therapist can evaluate this for you - make recomendations to your doctor and with a script most insurance will cover the costs too . ...Don't forget too if you need this sort of addaptive accomidation then the ASAP Bobby Fund is another great source of help up to $1000 . The ASAP Bobby funds applications can be gotten by emailing the ASAP office . The application is short and easy ..they are seeking folks who need/want help ....and it will cover almost anything needed in addaptive equipement ect that your doctor writes a script or letter for . We just don't have any excuse for not addressing this safety issue ..so please do ! in Paradise ( another who topples over with her eyes closed / falls easily in the dark ect . )

If I were to stand at a sink unable to see my feet, I'd fall. I have a light on at night. Having the electric go off is one of my nightmares, thank goodness for tap it lights! I actually fell and broke my leg when I looked up BRIEFLY! 10 years ago Luella

Guest guest
Pam and Terri, Boy I thought I was the only one that had to prop up in the corner of the shower when washing my hair!!!! LOL I have to almost stand with my nose in the corner so my short little arms can prop on 2 walls for support... So maybe we can start a new club? " shower stall supporters " ?!?!?
