Oh Men.....to be like them right? You need to just talk to

Hi ,

I have been to a Vascular surgeon. They sent me there to see what he could do if anything. I have had RSD for 6 years now. My legs and feet are different colors and they swell constantly. My right leg is about twice the size. When I went to see the vascular surgeon all he could tell me is maybe if I loose some weight. Then I saw a neuro surgeon and was told that I had Left tibial neuropathy, and the lumber disks are deteriating (spelt wrong) They are disappering. So there was nothing anyone could do the RSD just took over both legs. She recommenced that maybe an Spinal cord stimulator mite help. Hence the word MITE. I hope this will help. And maybe the Dr they send you too can figure something that will help your daughter. If you find something out please let me know. My email address is usmiller@....

Since cyclobenzaprine (Flexoril) is typically prescribed for muscle spasms, it will likely hep her with that as well. Barbarachabba lawrence wrote:

The doctor is judging by one other case?? If he knew anything at all he would know that different people have different symptoms! My pain doctor had a vascular study done and then to see a vascular surgeon to make sure I didn't have any problems there before getting me scheduled to get my SCS fixed. It came out fine.

I agree with . He cant base his RSD knowledged based on one

other patients symptoms. EVERYONE is different in how they show

symptoms, everyone reacts differently to meds and treatment and some

are in various stages when they are diagnosed and apt to show

different variations.

I was at the pain clinic last week to see my dr in follow up. He did

a quick exam on the area that originally showed the signs of RSD and

said that it appeared to be looking pretty good all things

considered. He also said that my particular case was fairly different

from others that he had seen in the way that it traveled, the way it

reacted to touch (most likely because i do some desensitizing)etc but

I am on neurontin and I do have duragesic patches that keep me

comfortable. Thing is Im different from others with my diagnosis but

it doesnt mean I dont have it and your daughters dr cant simply turn

around and say because he saw one other case that she doesnt have it

either.

Maybe Im rambling but I hope that I've made some sense LOL.

Just off the top of my head...eggs for sure...chicken broth...homemade

is best but if you don't have the time or energy to make it, Trader

Joe's has some pretty good stuff, as does Whole Foods.

Anything you can blenderize and suck up with a straw should work. Low or

no carb broths can be added to meat and veggies and blenderized. Whey

powder and certain low carb fruits with DaVinci syrups for extra flavor.

Even peanut butter, or other nut butters can go into the blender with

low carb milk, or cream and water, or half and half.

I think if you google blender recepes you should find enough LC recipes

to carry you thru. Try to add some fiber to help modify spikes.

Sandy - Dannon makes low carb yogurt and low carb smoothies. I also make

my own smoothies with yogurt and Whey protein powder and some

raspberries - low carb and high protein. There is always sugar free

jello and pudding, but the puddings do have carbs and I have never tried

them. Scrambled eggs are always a good bet and when you exhause those

ideas there are always donut holes - oops - they are not low carb but

they are small and soft ;-) Cottage cheese, if you like it (I don't) or

ricotta cheese mixed with some yogurt and some flavoring is high protein

and can be tasty. The best is the homemade smoothie with Whey Protein

powder, 1 cup plain yogurt, some light cream. little DiVinci syrup and

about 100 grams raspberries. It is to die for and certainly is filling

and does not spike my BG. Of course, my digestion is vastly different

from everyone else's so YMWDV (your mileage will definitely vary). Good

luck with the surgery.

Sandy, people have given you some good ideas, but don't forget your

blender! Canned green beans, beets, canned meats, canned soups can all

be whirred around in the blender for a while until it is right for you.

Season them up and it might not be too bad.

Just a thought,

Plain, unsweetened yogurt is a possibility. You will have to test

first to see how it affects your bgs, though. It's possible to

subtract 1g of carbs per ounce of yogurt you consume due to the effect

of the bacteria. But some are sensitive to yogurt regardless so the

best thing is to test how it affects you.

Selina, not sure that it would help you a lot at this point, but my

daughter is a physician assistant who practices dermatology, and she

recommends biotin. You can get it at any vitamin store or even

WalMart. My surgeon has said that of his patients that have

experienced hair loss, it does grow back, and more thick and luxurious

than it was before!

In addition to the biotin, the nutritionist advises keeping your protein intake

high. So make sure you're consuming enough protein as well.

Get the MAX mcg of Biotin that you can get, and pray that it works (it

didn't for me)I now use Redkin (5th Avenue) Extreme leave in treatment

and I use it after each shampoo. It is a protein treament for your

hair. It will also let your hair grow back out. I just bought my

bottle last Friday and although my hair hasn't started growing back

yet, people swear by this stuff, and I can really tell that my hair is

not falling out like it was (just a few strands instead of a handful).

This comes in a 8.5 oz bottle and it cost around 14.00, but it is

worth it not to lose anymore hair.

Hope this helps.

Hi Selina, I took 1000mcg of Biotin everyday and did not lose any of

my hair. I was so excited because that was a big worry for me too. My

doctor was even impressed. Take Care ~ in CA

Hi Selina,

Try some vitamins (like biotin) if you'd like and keep up the protein,

but I wouldn't spend a lot of money on other stuff. It is my

understanding (I'm not there yet) that the hair loss typically comes

about 4-5 months after the surgery and is in response to the surgery

itself and the malnutrition you experience right around that time. If

you are losing hair, it might continue for a few weeks, then it will

stop on it's own and grow back. With hair growth, things are delayed

because of the life cycle of the follicle. If you were to try

something today and see a " result " in a week, it would not be from

what you just tried, but rather from something that happened a few

months ago (like being able to start getting your protein in again).

Does this makes sense to you? I think a lot of people have hair that

falls out, then they try an expensive product and the hair starts

growing back. Then they attribute that to the product when it is

really what would have happened anyway as a result of your nutrition

returning shortly after surgery.

One more thing....

I'm not trying to say that hair products like one mentions in

another post don't work. They very likely do help make your hair

healthier overall and reduce hair loss in general. I'm just saying

that if they do work, they typically take several weeks to see an

effect, like she says.

I was just trying to point out that if you started that today and had

new hair growth next week, it probably isn't that product, but rather

is what would have happened naturally anyway.

Oh and the Costco Kirkland brand " protein " shampoo has worked great

the last couple weeks. 80oz for $6. It smells sort of coconutty and

tropical fruity. Still haven't bothered to figure out where they get

the term " protein " for it.
