Guest guest
Everybody is different, you might be able to get into bed with some help from your husband....You might just need some extra pillows around your belly and so on.......You wont know until you get home. I slept in a bed the first night home, but I could not lay flat on my back, it hurt....So I slept curled up on my side with pillows. But the good news is that if you do have pain it wont last for long. you should be doing ok rather fast. The LAP RNY is SOO much less pain than the open. That is what I have heard at least......Good luck to you and I wish you a speedy recovery. Guest guest
Cathy, This is just a thought,,,do you have anyone you could stay with after surgery that has a recliner you could sleep in or that would allow you to borrow one for a little bit. If all else fails maybe you could check into a rent-a-center and rent a recliner for as long as you need it. Just tossing out some ideas... Guest guest
Hi Cathy, I did not have any trouble in the bed if I had a pillow with me. I did not have a body pillow but a regular bed pillow. I laid on my side with the pillow propped against my stomach or against my back and slept fine. Also the pillow helps you get up, cough, sneeze, etc. It helps to brace your stomach. In the car a small travel pillow worked wonders for me. Used it the same way as a big one just not as bulky to handle in the car. Guest guest
Mike T I'm a newbie but I've had 10 other relatives have this surgery and all were lap, some did great and others did a little slower, so I'm hoping mine will be a lap, so far the doc say ok, but you just never know. I made sure I paid attention to your instructions though because you just never know. How long were you in the hospital.
Guest guest
I didn't have any problems w/ the couch or the bed after I got out of the hospital. I looked like a pregnant lady getting off the couch the way I'd scoot to the edge then push off. LOL I'd roll out of bed. I slept fine in a bed. I'd put a pillow under my tummy while laying on my side. W 380/262/160 sarrah345 wrote: > Hi Everyone, > > Well, I " plan " to have the Lap RNY, and I'm 35, and weigh 304 as of > today. Guest guest
Hi Cathy, I am almost 1 year out, on the 16th and when I first came home, I wanted my bed. My bed does not sit in a frame it is on the floor almost like a futon. I didn't have any problems getting up or out of my bed, I didn't even have too much pain. But you know everyone is different, you will just have to try a few things and see what helps. I know when my mom had her back go out she put her vacuum next to her bed to grab onto to help her stand, I imagine it would work in this case as well/ I was home with my 2 kids age 12 & 14 and I was fine. Now about the body pillow, that was a life saver, I love to use it right under my belly when I sleep on my side. It was just so comfy and it gives you soft support. It just felt wonderful! I would totally recommend it to everyone. I hope this helps you out a bit. Take Care, in CA **My 1 year anniversary is Dec.16** I can't believe it! All I wanted the day before my surgery was to be transported about 3 months into the future and here it is a year!!! Yeah me!!!
Guest guest
Just one day, I think it was a Tuesday morning, and I went home Wed. afternoon.......I stayed one night close to the hospital in a hotel where my family was staying, that felt good just being down the street from the hospital if anything went wrong.......It didn't and we came home on Thurs to my house.....Now that first night in the hotel, I had no choice but to sleep in the bed, that was all that was there. So you do whatever make you feel good. Just don't get to caught up in how good your feeling if you don't have pain, still take it VERY easy when getting up and laying down........ Guest guest
I have heard of people who rented recliners. Just an idea. Guest guest
Mike I think they have me in the hospital for 5 nights, or if I do good they will let me out to the hotel. I hope I'm doing good to leave the hospital at 4 nights, but if I get 5 I'll try and enjoy it, but you know how it is in a hospital the minute you doze off some big noise happens or they come in for something. LOL Which ever way it flows, as long as I'm losing weight and healing I'm going for it. I've made a big list of questions to start asking. For example, when can I walk on a treadmill, join a gym etc like that.
Guest guest
Heck they have you walking the night of your surgery practically. My surgeons wanted me walking a lot right away after release from the hospital. I would think a treadmill would be perfect. They did NOT want strength training or really heavy stuff for 4-6 weeks though I believe. Five nights? WOW. The thing that really sucks about this surgery versus others is you don't get ice cream in the hospital.
