Guest guest
Hi Cindi I find it interesting that you suggest that the basal temperature be taken under the arm which I know Broda suggests. 97.6 under the arm is a normal temperature as the axillary temp is 1/2 to 1 degree lower than oral. Here is an except on temperature taking from a very complete site: http://www.thyroidrevolution.com/solutions/taketemp.htm Oral, rectal, or underarm use? Extensive experience has proven that the traditional underarm or armpit [axillary] use of thermometers for thyroid monitoring, gives readings that are consistently too low and which encourage overdose of thyroid supplements. Historically, Dr. Broda , used the underarm method. He was famous for this. His primary focus was on basal temperature testing only. He was a pioneer in discovering how basal body temperature related to thyroid problems and many diseases. Because of his breakthrough discoveries, he became a hero to the alternative medicine community, and developed a unique following that continues to this day to promote the underarm method. Many modern doctors and alternative health practitioners still make the mistake of recommending underarm temperature taking. This is NOT recommended. We recommend proper ORAL temperature taking only, and have found that when done properly, ORAL temperatures are more accurate and consistent with thyroid supplementation needs and dosage monitoring. We also recommend both basal and daytime temperature taking, which are explained in our Taking Body Temperatures section. Both basal and daytime temperatures are very important. Besides being more accurate, ORAL temperature taking is easier to perform during a person's usual daytime routine, in the office or workplace, etc. I find the Thyroid Revolution a good site. Does anyone have comments on this site? Kallie Re: CINDI/OK, need my head cleared... Guest guest
I have read much info on the Thyroid Revolutions website and I think it is great information. Like all written on any subject it is still that author's opinion, except where backed by testing, but I feel this is one of the better websites for facts about this disease. *Artistic Grooming * Hurricane, WV Fat cat? Guest guest
I agree with that a lot of the info on the Thyroid Revolution site is good although I still don't agree with what they say about taking temperature. I have two mercury thermometers and have used them both at the same time, one under the arm, one in the mouth. The difference is half a degree higher taken in the mouth. I also don't like the fact that they don't reveal who they are or what qualifications they hold, to me that is just the same as taking advice from this group except that we all know each other here and we can offer advice through our own experiences. Guest guest
I agree with you Lynda regarding the lack of disclosure of the authors. I am making a guess that the website is paid for by some of the sellers of the products recommended with one being Tropical Traditions. I am guessing that some of the information is provided by Dr. Peat and Sally Fallon of the Price Pottinger Foundation as they are connected in some way to Tropical Traditions. I have sent a couple of emails asking for the author's names with no answer. I wonder why the authors and the people who pay for the website cannot disclose their names. Seems funny to me. What are they afraid of. Except that they do recommend certain products as being the best. Tropical Traditions is not the only good provider of good coconut oil which is what makes me suspicious they may have something to do with it. Does paranoia go with hypothyroidism?
