That price is a little bit to much for me, but they also make personal scales for less. I did order their top of the line BC549 Ironman scale for 150 dollars. That one is really great, not only is the weight right on it also has tons of features. It will calculate your BMI among other items. It has 4 stations you can program for different people with your height, age, sex, and activity level. After weighing it will show various numbers like weight, BMI, muscle mass, water, DCI and more. The same that your doctor uses for evaluating your progress. The scale goes up to 330 pounds, but they also make scales that go up to 900 pounds. For those interested the website is www.tanita.com They also have some interesting publications you can download for free. Guest guest
Are you sure about that... I like the idea of playing with explosives.... Reality is that the average RNY patient will regain 40% of the lost weight, some even all. So you may opt to hang onto the scale to keep yourself on track for the long run. I personally feel it is worse the 150 bucks. That was the top of the line personal scale. You can always buy one of the cheaper ones. Guest guest
Greetings All: I got a scale from the JC Penny's catalog for under $100 including shipping. The scale was a balance beam with weights upto 350lbs and manual calabrating. It came in 3 pieces and was easy to put together. Nice to have and watch the weight fall off! from the left mr. Guest guest
I get on my scale even more now that I have even passed my goal. That's to make sure I don't gain anything. So you better think twice before you blow it up, you may find yourself looking for another one! Take Care in CA
Guest guest
A scale won't keep me from gaining or help me lose weight only maintenance of healthy habits does that for me. That being said I saw an interesting scale at Aldi's last night for $30 that had body fat, water, etc. features. It was a cool clear thing. I think maybe my kids might like it too. Although the idea of having a scale for a 14 year old daughter sounds like a complex/disorder waiting to happen. Mike in GR (scaleless and loving it) I would suggest a good scale for Christmas (or now for New > >Years). Guest guest
Mike, I have a 12 year old daughter and I feel the same way about the scale. That's why I hide my scale from her!! I don't want her to go crazy weighing herself all the time. She already will say she's fat and isn't going to eat! in CA >
Guest guest
Look out. We've got a 17 year old that we've been dealing w/ an eating disorder for 3 years. It finally landed her in the hospital last month. She's doing better now. Our scale is in our bathroom where she doesn't have easy access to it. Guest guest
My daughter will say she's fat and then later I'll pick on her about it but not much and only in good fun where it's extra brutal you know. I never harp on my kids all the time and just beg them to try things or I sneak things in. If she wants a diet coke I often let her get one. If she wants a desert I let her split it with her brother, me or all three of us. I've got her to where she really reads everything in a menu and makes her own substitutions to veggies, etc. with the waitstaff without me having to demand it. I find if I support and lightly direct her in her eating decisions she feels more comfortable about them and eating in general. If I was to laud over her or get all whinny on things she's get a complex or purposely try to get me to react. I don't want to be in that position or put her in that control. Guest guest
I have often wondered how to address that sort of thing with my kids. NOt so much my boys as they are 13 and 15 and the 15 year old has just barely crossed the 100lb mark. My daughter however, is 18 and overweight. I believe she weighs close to 200. I have tried to get her to see what i have gone through being overweight since my second pregnancy. I dont want to harp on her or have it turn around and making her anorexic! I no longer have " junk food " in the house, but when shes at work at the mall she goes for lunch every day. When she first started to gain weight i figured she would then grow out of it.. nope. it didnt happen. So, how do you bring this up without making a young lady feel bad about herself? She will be going away to college in 2 weeks and i'll have even less control. Donna in CO > > > > Mike, I have a 12 year old daughter and I feel the same way about the > > scale. Guest guest
My daughter is 4 years old and this society is really terrifying. Now when she was 2, she wanted to be fat like Mommy, cause Mommy is beautiful. Now, Mommy is beautiful but she doesn't want to be fat. She pointed at a woman in a restaurant and said, oh my God she is so fat! I was so upset. I asked her why she showed me the fat woman and what difference did it make if the woman is fat. She said, she didn't knnow, but she did know that fat was bad. So I asked her if i'm bad because I'm fat, her response, No Mommy, don't be silly. You're mommy. So I asked her if that woman was someone's mommy. She was stumped. I'm upset because outside people are messing with my kid's head! What happened to Mommy is beautiful? I hate other people! Oh, and I especially hate the things they teach their kids! Guest guest
Kim, My son is on a weight training program, requested by his doctor, CJ's needs to drop 10-20lbs and his 15. His doctor even sent him to a nutritionist. I have always bought educational stuff for my kids at Christmas for the most part. This year I spent $200 and bought him an at home gym system. I can't afford to spend the money on a gym membership for all of us at this time in our lives. But we all will be using this set. I know she's 7, but if she's that big now image in a few years. I don't want to sound mean. Yes, she will lose some baby fat as she gets older, but she will not lose all of her present weight by just growing out of it. I was overweight in elem school and I don't want her to go thru school with the crap kids put a person thru just because she's overweight. Get her involved doing fun exercises at home with you, make it into a game, see who can do the most. That kinda stuff. I know your hubby controls the money, but think of a reward system that will appeal to her. Make a schedule for your workouts/playtime. Please get her in the routine now while she's so young. It's a life choice. Teach her to be healthy. I've always discouraged my kids of overeating and eating too much bad stuff. They have always been active, so I don't have to nag there. Only because I didn't want them to end up like me. Since, I'm trying harder to lose weight. CJ has taken more of an active roll in his choices. Take Care, Sherry > > > > > > Mike, I have a 12 year old daughter and I feel the same way > about the > > > scale. That's why I hide my scale from her!! Guest guest
It is hard growing up as a fat kid. I know. I was one! I don't blame my parents per say but they could have offered me better choices instead of so much eating out & junk food. And also put limits on HOW MUCH I ate. I was so afraid when Kelsey was a baby of overfeeding her and making her fat. I still worry about her. She's gotten pudgy this winter since she didn't play basketball. I know when soccer starts back up she'll be more active again. I try to only keep healthy snacks. No candy. She rarely drinks soda. She has chocolate milk or juice or crystal light. Maybe she'd want to do an exercise video or something with you. Guest guest
Is there anything active that you can do with her? Make it her time with you and not focus on the weight itself. It's not easy, I know. My daughter isn't overweight, she's actually quite slim, like her father. But she's also very active and plays with a soccer club and dances ballet. wickedcarver@...> wrote: My 7 yr old says she is fat.She is in a size 14/16 girls 'cuz her belly is soo big.She gets made fun of on the school bus.She is in 1st grade & doesn't need this Sh#t so early in life.(I have NO self esteem from the horrid name calling I dealt with in elem school) I have a super round face, fat or thin & she is a picture of me,poor thing.I try to get her active but she is into art & computer.Wants nothing to do with running or sports. Her asthma doesn't help motivate her much either.I don't know what to do with her.Her Ped DR said " I can do better with her.
