,

I never worried about anyone testing my daughter and her brain. The

traits told the story, we knew what was wrong. I feel it hits more teens

because

at the start of puberty, their bodies are going through some tremendous

chemical and hormonal changes. Something traumatic happens in their lives that

triggers the chemicals to go haywire, imbalance, hence the disorders. The brain

chemistry is out of whack. Thinking, talking, changing reactions on our behalf

and I feel lots of serotonin replacement helps immensely. Changing our

reactions to them lets them see that their behaviors are no longer working on

us, so

they change them, hopefully for the better so they can get on the road to

recovery.

I am reading the Eggshells book and it's really opened my eyes.

Reading all these posts and the help-books has enlightened me but I am

still pretty much in overload.

Hi Debbie. I am new here too. It's good that you are here...you will

learn so much and there is so much support here.

I have seen some here offer their personal email addresses. Mine is

Shadoweve@... and would welcome any and all personal

contact. I dont know much about BPD as I am learning still. But I

enjoy exchanging experiences and will be a friend.

Shanara,

it is pretty overwhelming when your eyes are first open. It will get better.

Heed the advice given on this board and take care of yourself. Do something for

yourself and take a " vacation " from thinking about your daughter all the time.

it gets exhausting. You need to be strong and calm and happens only if you work

at it.

You are living in a beautiful part of this world. Do you enjoy outdoors?

Walking, hiking, gardening, horse back riding? Or arts? Something is telling me

you are artisric.

I am a published creative writer. And I just finished editing a

recently published book called " Rescued Tails " volume I. I also

write for one of the local newspapers. Also, I am a ceramic

artist...having just recently closed up shop (I owned a small store

in town). And I am the President of the local Chamber of Commerce

where I live. And trying to pick back up on playing the piano. I

teach beginner computing skills. I am constantly busy.

I am no longer a practicing counselor and I don't miss it one bit. I

find I automatically use my processing skills when interacting with

others but it's too draining to be honest, as a career. Furthermore,

its even harder when your own life is in chaois. I never was very

good at not feeling my clients' pain. (which is really a " no-no " )

And I have no illusions about, or desires to " heal the world " as

life makes it pretty clear....everybody has to be responsibile for

their own healing. And believe me, counselors are no different from

anybody else when all hell breaks lose in their private lives. All

that education is almost an albatross around their necks because

others expect them to be able to handle all of life's crisis with a

snap of their fingers. It never works that way. NEVER! When our own

world is dealing with an emotional emergency, we are just as fragile

as the next person. Enough said.

Today I identify myself as a writer and a retired, very tired mom.

.......addendum....

having a counseling degree meant to me that I should have recognized

what was going on and I had no idea. It meant to me that I had the

ability and the skills to do better for my daughter, and I didn't

realize what was going on. For me, it means I was very remiss....so

getting over the shock of it, has really taken me a long time.

I really appreciate all of you. I feel like I really have so much in

common with all of you. Thank you again for being here. I just wish

I had known you were all here a year ago. Or the year before that.
