Guest guest
, I have noticed I will retain water about once a month if you know what I mean. Other then that I have not noticed much of a problem. I don't know much about water pills, but becareful with what you take after surgery without asking your doctor. I mean I doubt a waterpill is an issue, but just becareful. I am scared to death to try anything other than tylenol products without asking my dr. That long drive probably did it to you. You did great with exercising inbetween!! That's great, but that sitting probably set that retention for you in your feet. Best Wishes! The drive was split up over 3 days (with a 2 day break in the middle) and I got out and walked a lot during the drive. I've been getting my water in and almost enough protein. I've had a few issues with keeping things down because of the limited choices I've had on the trip. Now I'm settled at my mom's (with better food choices) but now my lower legs and ankles are really retaining water. It might have been a bad idea but I took a water pill that she had. I lost 8 pounds overnight. I don't know if this is something caused by the drive or if it is just something that happens after surgery to some people. I also don't know if it could be due to too much or not enough water. Has anyone else had this problem just after surgery? in MI __________________________________________________
Guest guest
It's probably a combination of all those factors. I still retain water horribly! Riding in a car for extended periods makes it worse. You probably had a lot of sodium while on the road trip as well. A lot of times poor food choices are riddled w/ sodium. Guest guest
You have to really watch your potassium on water pills. They can drain you of potassium. When I was on them once my doctor recommended a banana a day any day I took a water pill. Guest guest
I had some problems with water retention and Lasix helped me for a while and then it got to the point where it no longer really helped me but has been a real God send for my wife. Guest guest
That's probably a good part of it. I've never had a problem with sodium but so many things are different now. I forgot to mention that I also took a potassium pill with the water pill to prevent that problem. in MI > > I'm 3 1/2 weeks out and I just drove from Michigan to Texas. Guest guest
Wow! I just went to my PCP yesterday, because my lower legs, ankles and hands are swollen. He felt my hands and ankles and looked at my legs, and said is wan't anything to really be concerned about. When I had pneumonia this summer I gained 28 lbs of water weight because of the monster steroids I got in the hospital and when I was released. I still have some Lasix, and I'm not sure if I should take any or not? Also, a BIG question..........I've heard that you gain weight in the hospital, because of the IV fluids. Is that true??????? The last thing I need is more edema and swelling of my body. Could someone post a response about that? Guest guest
Alot of people from what I have heard gain several pounds while in the hospital from the IV fluids. But it will leave very quickly. If I gained, I lost it by the time I got home. Guest guest
You will gain some weight in the hospital because of the IV fluids. I was so terribly swollen those 2 days. Walking around helps. Even if only for a couple minutes at a time. And drink plenty of fluids. The more you drink the more your body will release. I'm not nearly as puffy on days I get my water in as I am on days I don't. NOT drinking water will make you retain water. W 380/255/160 sarrah345 wrote: > Wow! Guest guest
I gained 10 pounds from the IV fluids in the hospital. I lost those in the first week and wasn't having problems until I traveled 3 weeks later. I guess that and the high sodium in what I was eating probably caused the water retention. I did take one of my mom's lasix 2 nights in a row to get rid of it. Most of it is gone but I still have some. > > > > I'm 3 1/2 weeks out and I just drove from Michigan to Texas.
