Hello all......Today we had our first visit with Dr. at Duke.

To make a long story short.....Kristi (my daughter) is scheduled for

decompression next Monday the 16th. I was VERY impressed with Dr.

. He spent over an hour with us talking and explaining

things. When he walked in the examining room, he had Kristi's MRI's

in his hand.....naturally I assumed that he had looked at them and I

asked what he thought. He hadnt looked at them.....it's his policy

to talk with the patient first and then look at the MRI's. He said

that he likes to form his own opinion first. I liked that. When he

did look at them, it was done with us there. He showed us what was

wrong and then so that we could better understand he went and got

someones normal MRI and compared the two to us. There was a huge

difference in the two. Kristi's herniation is only 3cm, but

according to him that dosnt make any difference.....he said that with

chiari you had to look at more than just the herniation.

I was surprised that while waiting in the waiting room we found two

others with chiari.....both were like Kristi, had been to doctor

after doctor and still no help. I got upset when he compared the two

MRI's to us.....it made me mad that it was so obvious and so many

other doctors didnt see it. Thank God we have found someone that

knows what to do.....maybe my baby will get her life back now.

Thank you all so much for all the help you've given me. I'll keep

you posted. Take care......Sharon IN NC
