It is very expensive. My insurance will cover it. What a surprise!

Hi, Kallie if the info was not as good but I guess since i was prescribed

this I wanted to double check all the info and that was the best info for me to

check everything, but the natural way of course is the best! however I will try

this because my depression is too much for the 5htp, I will try cymbalta and

see what happens since it did help someone on this list, Thanks

I can also recommend this book. I used 5-HTP back in 2000 with some success.

had I not been hypo, it might have been even better.

Hi

The information you gave is the Eli Lily site. They manufacture cymbalta and

they are also the company which suppressed the information that Prozac increased

the incidence of suicide.

For people who don't want to use pharmaceuticals, the book " 5 HTP, The Natural

Way to Overcome Depression, Obesity, and Insomnia " might be of interest.

5 HTP has helped me to sleep better. I take 200 mgs at bedtime.

Hi, I will also share the info I read about cymbalta

here it is:

how much of it were you prescribed?

my insurance papers say they will ONLY give us generic prozac. I wouldn't take

that one. I did call my mail order pharmacy though, and she did a pretend run

through, and she said it came up as covered.

I dont supposed 5HTP does anything for spasms, does it?

I have spasms in my neck. They are better than before my cervical fusion, but

they are still there. I have major knots in my neck muscles - and shoulder

muscles (trigger points). This is what interests me about this drug.

Cris,

Have you tried increasing your magnesium a lot? Magnesium is required

for muscles to relax. Calcium is required for them to contract. I

have found that in order to keep the muscles from being in knots and

constantly being pinched, I must take more magnesium than calcium.

(also good massages) Many books say to have calcium:magnesium ratio of

2:1 - BUT I find that I need it to be the opposite. I am on a

magnesium deficiency board - all persons on the board who are

magnesium deficient find that they need MORE MAGNESIUM than calcium.

So if you take 800 mg of Calcium try to take up to 1600 mg of magnesium.

Magnesium is also very important in the regulation of the thyroid, in

the transmission of signals in the nervers, energy production, cardiac

health. In my opinion it is one of the most overlooked minerals and

is one of the most important to everyone.

My clinical trial was 60mg 2x a day. It did increase my blood pressure a bit.

Also had urinary hesitancy, but that was a benefit for me. I drink a lot and go

a lot! With Cymbalta I didn't get up at night every hour. Loved that. Now I'm

trying 20mg 2x a day. No blood pressure increase, not quite as much benefit

either. I'm not as bad off in regards to the spasms as I was then. They make a

30mg cap as well. I may go to that but am anxious to try Armour first. I don't

want to change anything else till I give that a chance to work. I'm so hopeful

it will help a lot of things and I can quit flailing down different paths.

I agree. I take my magnesium at night and think it also helps my sleep. Big plus

is it also helps the constipation.

this is true - I plan on increasing my thyroid meds one way or the other - and

it is very possible that could help my spasms and trigger points and my pain

level. I'd like to get off of the neurontin. Right now, I take it before bed -

which is the only way I can sleep. and I go to sleep with a heating pad with a

timer on it - on my neck and shoulders. I am addicted to my heating pad! But -

my knots are so bad, that I've been told that I need something to lessen them -

break them up - so they can go away. I've had them for years now, so I don't

expect them to go away overnight. but if this drug helped with them - stopped

the spasms, the knots could ease. And then with armour treatment, hopefully,

they wouldn't come back. And I could go off of both the neruontin and this new

one. No clue that my dr. would prescribe it for me anyway though.

am I making sense?

my pharmacy said it comes in a 60 mg and a 30 mg.

both will cost me the same - so if I ask my dr. I should know what mg to ask

for. It sounds as tho 1 60 might be the way to go. if 2 60 causes problems.

Thanks!

they have eased since I started the armour - but not nearly enough. I used to

get trigger point injections. Haven't had any of them in a while, and I'm

managing ok. I know though, that they are really painful if I go off of the

neurontin. I tried it before.

I had a knot in my shoulder/upper back that had been there for probably 10

years...it was always sore and painful...it was sorta a carry over from when I

worked and was on the phone a lot and scrunched up that shoulder. I thought it

was a permanent knot there.

sometimes in the last 11 months of Armour it just disappeared. gone. no

more.

I take 825 mg of Malic Acid - The bottle says it is (152 mg Magnesium from 1000

mg magnesium malate and 825 mg malic acid from 1000 mg magnesium malate).

My magnesium itself, is only 250 mg - - as magnesium oxide).

so - it sounds as though I really need to increase my magnesium!

thanks!

Is there a specific magnesium that I should be looking for?

thanks!

Oh! man! for the last 32 years I can't sleep without a hot water bottle or

heating pad or both! Is that hypothyroid? Oh, and lots of heavy covers.

I take 1-2 400mg at night. But powdered Vit C is my real anti-contipation

weapon. I vary the amount I take according to how I feel. Helps me not to get

bruises and I think it is supposed to help detox the body. I'm sure I need that.

It would be better to get some other opinions outside the pharmaceutical

industries that create all these antidepressants. Their view is going to be

slanted to sell their product at the cost of human suffering, no matter what

it is that they already know about their products. I will never read side

effects and treatment off of another site that is written by a

pharmaceutical company. This MIGHT even include Forest because, after all,

they are also in the business to sell. I'd rather listen to the expertise

and experience of " the masses " , those who have experienced it all. Our

experiences may not all be the same, to different degrees, but at least it

gives an idea of what may happen in the long run.

Just out of curiosity, where are your TSH, free T3 and free T4 levels when

you are depression free?

in Va.

* >>my depression is because of my thyroid levels, are any

of you on any meds?<<

YOU are right on! It is a horribly depressing disease, and causes a

depression that is devastating. USED to be on several antidepressants, not

any more! Hey you have found the best antidepressant in the world right

HERE! Hope for your ailing thyroid gland. It helps depression just knowing

there are others like you out here and you are not alone with this miserable

disease.
