critical mood deterioration?...yea, i had that....but i just called it

" feeling like crap " ....critical mood deterioration sounds much more important.

:)

as in " hey doc...I've had some critical mood deterioration recently. "

I amuse myself sometimes....

But feel like crap doesn't have BIG words in it. Need to make the Dr

look like they know something by using BIG words. (Yeah - have a

manger like that. Annoying as all heck. )

What gets me, Cindi, is that those who don't have this think of " critical

mood deterioration " as being " a little down " , " a little depressed " , " just

don't have that little get up and go " . No. CRITICAL mood deterioration has

much more ominous signs than that, IMO, for MOST of us thyroid sufferers.

Even with a happy existence, suddenly, there is stuff like " I don't feel

like existing any more " , " I feel like everything I'm doing is for nothing " ,

" What am I here for because I really don't feel like breathing in and out

any more " , " I feel like the things I formerly did don't mean anything and

I'm just going through the motions and not even that " . Or even " What would

it bring if I just took these pills and laid down and died and couldn't feel

any of this haunting emotional pain that comes out of nowhere and goes

nowhere? " . Some would say that this is ONLY something labeled as brain

chemistry or that there is actually something bothering us emotionally, but

we all know that the brain chemistry is so highly affected by lack of

thyroid hormone OR, before the loss of the hormone itself in the rest of the

body, antibodies are hammering away at the thyroid hormone that is actually

trying to get into the brain cells. THIS is one of the major things that so

many doctors and/or folks who don't have this disease do not

understand-----just how far these " things " can go in affecting our emotional

status and our general outlook on life, especially when life is actually

good for us.

some folks here are on anti-depressants. I was on an anti-anxiety med when I

started Armour, but was able to stop it after two weeks on the thyroid med.

forum. I felt so alone and scared...and when I found others who had been thru

what i was going thru...gosh, it just helped me so much.

I think i will start taking the cymbalta pill tomorrow night since my hubby

will be here over the weekend, i am just not sure of what reaction i will have

to it, not sure if it will make me sleepy wouldnt want to fall sleep while

caring fo rmy girls.

Oh the thing that scares me about taking anxiety/depression meds is that some

have horrible withdrawal symptons when you stop taking them like I stiopped

ativan and boy it was horrible stopping this med, I had every kind of

withdrawal symptom,

i agree..they have terrible withdrawal symptoms. i stayed on a low dosage of

the Tranzene so i wouldn't have to worry about that...and i didn't have any

problem just stopping.

I can't tell you the times when I went to a counselor of several different kinds

that would ask me, So what's bothering you? & I would answer, NOTHING, I just

feel like dying and that life is just too much WORK to keep going.

YOU are right on! It is a horribly depressing disease, and causes a depression

that is devastating. USED to be on several antidepressants, not any more! Hey

you have found the best antidepressant in the world right HERE! Hope for your

ailing thyroid gland. It helps depression just knowing there are others like you

out here and you are not alone with this miserable disease.

HI kate, the funny thing about thi is that my doc actually gave me the meds

for spasms too! and when i came home and looked it up online I saw that it was

for depression and i questioned him about giving me that med, but he said that

it was approved by the fda for spasms, of course i thought he was giving it

to me for depression and got so mad, thought he was being sneaky, like so many

doctors that lie and give you meds for depression and say it for something

else!!! anyway I will begin taking it tonight, did it get you drowsy?

I did a clinical trial on cymbalta for fibromyalgia. It was great for me. I have

waited for it to come out for a couple years now. I've never been as bad even

since I stopped it. None of the SSRIs ever helped me. I even tried Effexor which

is the other SNRI but it didn't do. I just got a script at the end of last year.

I'm taking a lesser amount and it has helped but not quite as much. I may decide

to increase it a bit. But this was before I found out thyroid antibodies could

be the root of my problem. I'm still waiting for my Armour. I'll reassess after.

Cymbalta does not make me sleepy. In the trial I was on the highest amount. I

did not have withdrawal when they stopped. I do what that's like though. Awful.

That pretty much covers my knowledge! It eased my fibro pain, made me less

nervous, less weepy, less afraid to go out into the world, less fearful overall.

I could bend over to pick something up without my back going into spasms.

Thank you!

if it works for spasms, I'd be in heaven!!! I'm sure my insurance won't cover it

though.
