Guest guest
Mike in GR, Your email got me to thinking about dating post op. Do you find yourself going on many dates, and if so how/when/what do you tell them about your WLS? WLS has been one of the biggest achievements for me, so I am totally up front with everyone. Do you find yourself ever explaining your new life style? I wear a medical ID bracelet with NO NG Tube blah blah on the back of it, so this sparks converstations. What is dating life like post WLS? Any thoughts????? lisamathis76
Guest guest
What a nice thing to do! I am always having too many styrofoam diners in my fridge. Judy leftovers from eating out I didn't tell ya all about eating out before THE WHO concert Tuesday. I was an idiot and ordered a humus apatizer. It was delicious though. Fantastic tomatoes. Then my wrap was a southwestern chicken and really great. I got veggies on the side which they charged me for, damn it, and STILL included the chips (barf get them out of here). I think my waitress must have been hard of hearing because my son and I both told her we didn't want that crap with our meals just veggies. That right, my son ordered veggies instead of chips without me telling him to. Anyway, I couldn't finish my wrap but it was SO GOOD I had to have it later for breakfast or something right? So I boxed it up with some of the veggies. I was thinking about heading back to the car to put it in before the concert. That seemed like a lot of work in the cold/wind just for half a wrap. It was worth $3.50 though so maybe I should have. I tried to shove it in my coat pocket but couldn't get it in there. Just a short tangent, is it just me or do 2X and smaller clothing have smaller pockets making it harder to carry lots of snacks and food? I mean when I was wearing 5x-6x I could carry a LOT of crap (food) with me to munch on whenever. Now I can't even manage a half a wrap? It's a conspiracy I tell ya. Ok so I've got this damned wrap that I know they're going to have a problem with at the concert gate right? Fine, I'll just throw it out. I can't find a trash can on the way out the restaurant but we're going on the back and all the trash dumpsters are back there so I know I'm headed to get rid of this thing. I see the dumpster coming down there stairs and there's this guy in a Red Wings jacket, not looking all that bad but I start to see that he's sort of picking at the dumpster's contents a bit. Not something I haven't seen many time before so I say, " Hey man, here ya go. " and hand him the togo box. He takes it and says, " Thanks a lot. " I say, " No problem have a good night " and walk off. The two guys (I was with two friends, one of their kids and my son) and my son start asking me who that was, did I just give him my food, was he homeless, blah blah blah. I just said, " Yes, I he was, I gave him my food, I couldn't get it into the arena anyway, it's not big deal, it's cold out, let's keep moving people. " But they really wanted to tell me how cool that was. I still tried to discount them and say it was all timing, I mean if I'd been 5 minutes earlier it would have still been in the dumpster for him just a little colder. They even kept me updated that the guy was a couple dozen feet away from us and was eating the stuff hungerily. Sigh...well that's good I guess. So there are nice things that come out of getting rid of extra food. This is pretty tough with being Dutch and spending that much on food only to get rid of it. It does make it better knowing that someone benefitted from my inability, still today, to wrestle between my eyes/brain and my stomach/hunger. It really wouldn't be that hard for the kids and I to walk the half mile out of our way to some areas of town that have soup kitchens and stuff with our extra food after dinners out. It would be good for them to perform some direct charity like that. Maybe I'll start doing that. I'm going to wait until summer though BRRRR. Hmm, I just had a thought. I wonder what a date would think if we went out to a casual dressed meal of just some burgers or something and then went and did that afterwards. It would probably have the effect of either impressing her or being repugnant to her. That would benefit me in that I wouldn't want to waste my time on another date with someone who would find that silly, too much effort or repugnant. WOO I LOVE TO JUDGE OTHERS!! Guest guest
I noticed that in Texas too. There are a lot of folks with pretty cool setups sitting in the intersections. We have nothing like that here. I guess, especially on days like today, it'd be sort of a tough gig to pull off. The kids and I are walking downtown tonight for dinner. It's going to be about 20F feels like. Anyone want to come down with use? Are ya CHICKEN? I'll take my camera. Guest guest
That is way too cold for me and I guess I am chicken too because I prefer it much warmer than that, the fifties would be much better. Guest guest
A lot? What's a lot more than zero? Yes I guess I would be going on a lot. I'm trying to make plans with three ladies over the holidays. Maybe one more if I get up the courage. She's at my work which is always fun to navigate. How = " I had gastric bypass surgery back in January of this year. " When = I would say probably on the first date depending on how things are going. On my last first date the woman was quite a bit heavier than when I'd last seen her (20 years ago) but she's still terribly hot in my mind. Also, I'm hardly one to either cast stones or ask to judge about weight. I did end up asking her what she thought I weighed in our evening's conversation. She said 220s. RIIIIGGGHHHTTT! Try 270s honey. Needless to say I'm going to marry this one (kidding). What I tell them is however much they want to know. If someone can't handle that I've had weight loss surgery then do I really want to date that person? It's not like I'm wearing T-shirts or taking them to wls events or seminars so they're still plenty detached from the process. There are PLENTY of other things people have done to themselves over the years. I showed her my before picture a few days later. She wanted to see more of them. Strange duck eh? Seriously thought if you tell them early and they freak or things don't work out because of wls or anything else then at least you're not too attached early on. Easier just to get that out of the way. But don't just blurt it out either. You can work it into conversaton. Maybe when they ask why you're a freak and don't drink with your meal. HA! Totally upfront is the way to be. Bravo! Not really. They detect it pretty quick though when I get uber nuts on fish and veggies at dinner and when I refuse drinks. It's really not a hardship on them. I suppose it could be if we were drinking but then I will cheat and drink wine. I don't wear a bracelet but have thought of getting one. One of the ladies I'm trying to go out with is a diabetic so we'd have bracelets in common. Dating is the same so far I guess. I don't date much or should say I never did date much since the early 90s. Sad I know but then I was married for eight years too. I have a thought. Tell your date exactly what you're thinking and what's on your mind. The one I'm dating the most does that and I find myself doing all sorts of stuff for her that she mentions when we're together. The more detail and importance she attributes to something the harder I work and more $ I spend. Don't expect the guy to read minds, we can barely figure out what we're thinking. Maybe she's just playing me really well but I'm enjoying it so it's all good. I can give a list of a few things I'm doing but we'll start off with http://www.grandcarriages.com/ including champagne I'll be brining. She's hilarious too because I told her I had a surprise for her on the ride and she blurts out, " You do? What is it? " I said, " What? " She said, " the surprise, what is it? " I said, " Honey don't you know how this whole 'surprise' thing works? I don't tell you about it and then I surprise you with it. " How cute is that? It's not a big deal. It's essentially free. But it's seriously dead on with things she mentioned in our conversation on our last date. Not only dead on but I've made extra efforts to make the surprise very complete with my decades of experience and knowledge on the subject. If you want to know what the surprise is you'll have to ask. Mike in GR > > Mike in GR, > Your email got me to thinking about dating post op. Guest guest
Well I shouldn't have built up all the suspense but here goes. We were driving around my neighborhood after dinner last week and she commented how she loved the old houses and really liked hardwood floors and stuff. I told her mine was pretty tame but that the ex wife did get a nice house with floors, pocket doors, large oak french doors the whole nine yards. I also told her that she just missed the home tour in October. She sighed and said she'd have to go next year. I said you're going to do more than go baby, you're going to volunteer and get a free ticket to go. Of course being sweet I remembered all this so on our carriage ride we're going to stop for 10-15 minutes about half way through the course. Get out and go through one of the home tour houses from this year that's owned by a friend of mine. But wait! I even went down to the association that puts on the tour and got the tour map and narration for the guides for that particular home. The owners said they might not be there which would be a bummer but their four kids will probably be there with a babysitter. That's it. Not such a big deal I suppose but I think she'll appreciate it. Oh and I'll have to ask them if we can take pictures this time too. The home tour doesn't allow pictures. She also mentioned that she doesn't have a yearbook from her graduation year. I'm getting one of those Tuesday and will be scanning it into a PDF for her. I'm scanning my year's book in right now and it's taking about 3.5 hrs for the whole book. Scanning is pretty boring work too. There's a few more things too. She seems to really appreciate all this little stuff. It's very nice. Mike in GR > > > > > > Mike in GR, > > > Your email got me to thinking about dating post op. Guest guest
Mike, I can't imagine that she wouldn't love it! Besides, it's a great demonstration that you're a 1st class SNAG (Sensitive New-Age Guy.) It's thing things that take thought, no money, that are remembered a lifetime. She's lucky to have you. --Cat > > Well I shouldn't have built up all the suspense but here goes. > > We were driving around my neighborhood after dinner last week and she > commented how she loved the old houses and really liked hardwood > floors and stuff.
