Guest guest
Bathing is impossible and showeing was very difficult! But inly for a few weeks. I had minimal pain. Just lots of discomfort. I lost lots of hair (grow back already) and it did NOT cure my food addiction. I could gain the weight back and have to be VERY careful. I did not learn to deal with whatever the hell caused me to stuff my emotions with food in the first place. So once I get insurance I am going to conseling. Just remember it is not a cure, but a tool and it takes several tools to make it work. All in all, I would do it all over again!! I did save my life! : ) lap VG 286/190/145 Gone: sleep apnea gasping for air when I talk sometimes diabetes hypertension constant sweating chronic diarrhea edema skin sores being housebound and depressed 99% of the time! Guest guest
Hi Shay!!! There is hair loss, I lost about 1/3 of my hair but it does grow back. My hair is long past my shoulders. There is a pix of me and my bos on the front page and you can also look in the photos section under O album. I think there is a shot of me before. I now have 3 - 3 1/2 in. strands all over my head. I would so do it again. My hair preop was my best feature. LOL Now I have nice legs and an okay face!!! I didn't have a lot of pain. The only pain that I know others have is gass pain. when you have the surgery lap the surgeon pumps your abdomn full of air to create room for him/her to see. Somtimes it is painful while it trys to exit your system. Walking after surgery ASAP will help. It is hard to learn to eat again. Some food are hit and miss. Some foods sit well and some don't. It is a learning curve. I don't know about baths. I haven't heard of this. I took a shower the day after surgery while the drain was still in and was fine. Guest guest
No one ever said anything about hair loss to me post-op. I don't want to lose my hair, even for a little while. Does that happen to everyone? What causes that? Re: Ok so what are the negatives of this surgery? Hi Shay!!! There is hair loss, I lost about 1/3 of my hair but it does grow back. Guest guest
It didn't happen to me. I don't think it happens to everyone. Low protein and possibly other elements/vitamins causes it. > > > > I know that this surgery affect everyone differently but what are > some > > of the negatives? > > I have heard the hair lost, the intense pain, what are some other > > things? > > is it true that u can't take a real bath until your sars heal? > > > > > > > >

Guest guest
I lost my hair over a 6 mo. period. Now I have all these little hairs growing back... my hair is actually coming back thicker, I take biotin too... so that may be why it's thicker. Mike websculpt@...> wrote: It didn't happen to me. Guest guest
Most doctors/surgeons don't want you to take an actual bath or go swimming in chlorinated pool for a minimum of 2 weeks to do with healing..Showering is okay because you are not 'soaking' your incision sites. Guest guest
Shay, My surgery was on Monday and I have had no negatives so far. The worst part was the nasty stuff I had to drink when they tested me for leaks. They sent me home with liquid Lorcet and I haven't needed it at all. I bought liquid Tylenol and haven't needed that either. I have had no pain other than slightly sore stomach muscles. I have been able to sleep in bed on my side. Other people say they've had to sleep sitting up because of the discomfort. I went Christmas shopping today and had no problems walking around the mall. We ate out at TGI Fridays so I got cheese/broccoli soup and mashed potatoes. I added some soup to the potatoes to thin them out and ate about 1/4 cup total. I took the rest home. It will probably last me 3-4 more days, LOL! I was told to only shower for the first couple of weeks and no soaking in water. The reason is that my incisions were sealed with surgical glue and not staples or sutures. The glue could dissolve if soaked in water too long and the incisions could come open. If you had staples or sutures, it might be different. I prefer the glue personally. Stitches and staples are just too creepy :-) in MI Lap RNY 12/04/06 UofM 345/330/145 > > > > > > I know that this surgery affect everyone differently but what > are > > some > > > of the negatives? > > > I have heard the hair lost, the intense pain, what are some > other > > > things? > > > is it true that u can't take a real bath until your sars heal? > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
I forgot to add that the hair loss is a result of the trauma of the surgery itself in addition to the " malnutrition " that typically occurs in the week or 2 after surgery when you can't really get in enough protein and/or vitamins. The body needs protein and energy to heal and stops putting resources into " non-essential " things, like your hair. I read that the lifespan of a hair follicle is 4-5 months, which would explain why the hair loss happens about that time after surgery. I started taking the protein shake supplements and vitamin supplements like a post-op about 2 months pre-op. I just wanted to see if makes any difference. We'll see around April-June I guess. I've just been letting my hair grow and am not going to put any more perms or coloring in it. I am thinking that with a new body, it might be time for a new hairstyle. I'll go to a stylist in a few months and just let them do pretty much what they want. It all grows back anyway. It's not something I'll stress over as long as I KNOW it will grow back. I'd rather have a thin/healthy body and so-so hair than great hair and a fat, unattractive, unhealthy body. in MI > > > > > > > I know that this surgery affect everyone differently but what > are > > some > > > of the negatives? > > > I have heard the hair lost, the intense pain, what are some > other > > > things? > > > is it true that u can't take a real bath until your sars heal? > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
