I put mine on my credit cards! It worked and I am paying it off $1,500 a month and will be for the next 1.5 years with interest. Best money every spent! The company had told both me and my Dr. over the phone that it was covered. So, I just spent $100s and $100s and three months getting all my ducks in a row. I set aside vacation time, and I cancelled a Christmas trip to see my family. For nothing. There is no way they will cover it, so I'll have to finance this myself. Does anyone have any referrals to finance companies? Does anyone in this group have experience with going overseas? I am thinking about going to Buenos Aires. The cost is $12K, all- inclusive. (Travel, hotel, meals, hospital, physicians, etc.) I have checked out this surgeon, and he has better credentials than the one I was going to use here. My main concerns are taking extra time off work (I'd have to be there for 2 weeks), what to do with my son, and if I can get someone to go with me. I don't think I'd really need someone as the clinic provides an " assistant " for the first few days out of the hospital. I just think I'd get lonely. Am I nuts? Guest guest Posted November 28, 2006 Report Share Posted November 28, 2006 That is not bad, because I just got the bill from the hospital and my WLS even with a couple of complications was in excess of 47,000.00 and I am thankful that Medicare paid for the bulk of it. I have some co-payments to cover, but it is nothing compared to what they are paying for. If you will not be covered and do not have an out like I did, then maybe saving up for what you are looking for is not necessarily a bad idea. Lin Lhsh@... It could be an option for you, however. You can look into that at www.carecredit.com I ended up having to mortgage my house. The money should come through by the middle of December. People are shocked when I tell them this, but to me it's totally worth it. And yes, I know there are people in this group who've gone overseas and been successful. The person that did this pretty much paid off the loan and now is ready to use it for her tummy tuck. I would do it again in a heartbeat; but PLEASE be careful of what surgeon you choose. There are a lot of bad surgeons out there...in the US & Mexico. Make sure you research it. Go to obesityhelp.com and look up surgeons South of the Border. Contact them and ask for referrals. There is also finance info on obesityhelp.com for those who are self-pay. On going oversees, there are countries that do not screen blood as well as our country does, and some don't screen at all. What if you were needing blood and given contaminated blood? What about once you were back home and you had an infection, you can't get back to the surgeon as fast as if you had the surgery here? Other countries come here for lifesaving operations. If you watch TV you will see people from India, Iraq, etc.. all coming here to have surgery done in the US because they know that here our medicine is safe. Please think twice about doing this. It's all a matter of finding the right surgeon. I wouldn't have done it any other way. There's just as many quack doctors here in the US. If you have the surgery in another country you just have to make sure you have after care set up here in the US. My PCP was great and had no qualms about my having surgery in Mexico.
