Guest guest
Let's start off with driving into work this morning. It turns out I drank the 32oz of crystal light in 5 minutes not 9 as previously thought. Of course I might have been being more deliberate this morning but there you are. I then grabbed a half drank (by my daughter) bottle of water. Man I hate it when kids do that! I killed that pretty quick so followed it up with a fresh bottle of water (these bottles were 1/2 liters). That figures out to somewhere around 56oz on the 14-15 minute drive into work. Scary eh? That's really only 4oz a minute. Not so much if you aren't doing that for an hour straight or anything crazy like that. Of course now, after working out, I've finished up my third bottle of tea/water after my workout/shower which means I'm at about 106oz. Wild. I've gone to the bathroom twice this morning. The bottled stuff is crap though because it's so expensive in the quantities I drink it. I'm going to take the 46oz jugs of Spicy V-8 I drink over 10 business days, wash them out and start filling them with crystal light in the morning. It'll be less sodium, cheaper, taste great, less filling (had to add that pun). Back to why weight is crap. I've been weighing between 288 and 291 on my parent's scale for a good month now. Maybe not that long. I guess I don't keep very good track. Anyway, I have the impression I've not moved for a good month numbers wise. Sort of depressing if you consider how much I work out now, that I try to ramp it up every couple of weeks, watch what I eat, the whole nine yards. So this morning I finish up my shower and getting dressed after my workout and decide to use the free sphygmomanometer (blood pressure machine) provided by the company near the cafeteria. I've shyed away from these in the past because they simply can't cope with my fat arms. Well this one did seem to be a bit tight and we hadn't even started the measuring yet but I did get my arm in there. Pretty cool. I ran the machine for blood pressure test and it was 110/76 with a heart rate of 112 I think. Pretty sweet considering only 30 minutes prior I was finishing up my 1.25hrs in the gym. I then went and did some other tests. I had no idea this thing would weigh me. It said I weighed 279lbs. Well that's weird now isn't it? It still said my BMI was 37 which is very obese of course. All of this just leads me to conclude that my weight, number wise, is junk. I mean I'm obese at 279 and obese at 290 or so. What's the point? Of course it's nice to compare the 279 from the 328 at my six month appointment where they said I'd only lose 40lbs over the next six months. In your face! Also, what REALLY matters is that I've toned up, lost inches in the waist and shirt sizes, feel great, all that jazz. None of that really has jack to do with what the freaking scale tells me. Maybe it's that my surgeon never emphasized a goal weight. Maybe it's that I've always had a high weight number wise on the scale since I can remember. I'm not sure. But the number of what my weight is and, to a lesser extent, my BMI, isn't something I really get into much. Still, if 279 is accurate that means I'm down 212 pounds since August of 2005. There's no denying that's a hellavu lot and makes a big difference health wise. I guess I still need to lose another 60. Maybe another 80? Heck I dunno. I'm not sure I really care at this point. Maybe if we figure I'll lose another 20-30 from 12-18 months? That means I'd be down to 250lbs this summer. That sounds fine by me. Hardly what I'd consider skinny but then I've never been much on the whole skinny thing. Uh oh though, if I start putting in 279 into the machines I exercise on the calorie burn will be slower/lessened. That means I'll have to workout harder. Yet another reason to hate dealing with the weight/number. Thanks for listening to me ramble. Mike in GR

Guest guest
I guess I don't view it as that fast. It's not as if I'm trying to obtain a certain amount or win a contest. I drink plenty in a day, if I felt uncomfortable with this amount, going to the bathroom often, feeling too full, etc. I wouldn't drink this much this " fast " . On the contrary, I find that drinking 32 or more ounces soon before going to the gym at work hydrates me well for my workout. I've always been a big water drinker especially when involved in physical activity. When I worked at UPS almost two decades ago it wasn't unusual for me to drink around eight liters of water in a less than four hour shift with only needing to go to the restroom once or twice. I did/do tend to sweat A LOT, it is/was quite gross I suppose. The balloon analogy is interesting. I hadn't considered that the pouch would be such a closed container especially where fluids are concerned. It seems incongruent with my surgeons' recommendations that I avoid using liquid meal/food supplements (protein shakes) or even slightly caloric liquids (juices, soups, etc.) as they don't give that full sensation. Then there's my PCP who, when told at 3 months by me that I was drinking 64-80oz, commented that my urine was too concentrated and that I should drink over 100oz a day. I'll have to try filling a balloon with water again because I would have thought a balloon would go back to very close to its original shape unless the water remained inside the balloon for an extended period (maybe something like a full day). A long retention period for water in the stomach seems to clash with my surgeon's recommendation to avoid eating only 15 minutes after drinking fluids. Mike in GR (I'll drink to that!) > > > > You have lost your mind and there is not way that I could kill > that large of > > a bottle in that short of amount of time, you are just good and > that is all > > I have to say. > > Lhsh@ > > American by birth, > > Saved by the grace of God. > > > > fluid intake and yet more examples > of why > > the number/weight is junk > > > > > > Let's start off with driving into work this morning. Guest guest
Not sure where you are Lin but it's on sale at Meijer (which is in WI, IL, KY, MI, OH and I think PA) this week for $1 a can. It's usually anywhere from $1.40 - $1.60 depending on which Meijer you shop (I know weird that they price chili different at different stores). I've purchased 30 or so cans because I like it and to be able to ethically invoke a rain check (I bought all they had on the shelf). I have returned to the store to get more rain checks too.
