Hi everyone! Hope you all had a very nice Thanksgiving. I cooked

(healthy) and my whole family enjoyed the meal.

I have a question for anyone/everyone. I am almost 3 months post-op

and I have recently encountered " bathroom " problems. I have had a

problem on about 3 occasions now and I don't know what I can do. I

have had a very hard time having a movement. It's extremely hard and

large and I sit for sometimes 40 min to get it out. Has anyone

experienced this problem? AND does anyone have any suggestions as to

what I can do/take for this? I am going to also call my Dr. office

and ask, but I thought I'd post it here to get different

suggestions/ideas. I appreciate any feedback to this.

I have had this problem a few times and probably the only thing that I know

to do is to use a stool softener.

Welcome to my world! :-) I started taking a fiber supplement and MAKE

SURE TO GET YOUR WATER IN! I'm doing much better these days. Your

doctor might also suggest a stool softener.

Are you drinking enough water? If so, add some roughage to your diet or get a

stool softener. Checking with your doctor is the best idea.

Fruit juice? I thought that stuff was seriously frowned upon. It's

strictly VERBOTEN by my dietician and surgeon. In fact the other

three or so dieticians I've been too over the past decade (yeah I

never learn) always started out with that first. Fortuantly I never

really got into fruit juice other than the occasional orange juice.

What they've suggested instead is the raw fruit itself. With me and

fruit juices it was like everything else, a portion size issue,

instead of the 6oz I'd drink probably three times that. That's

hitting nearly 400 calories and not getting filled up. With my

new " abilities " to take in even more liquid now I hazard to guess

what I'd be able to take down fruit juice wise.

This brings me to something about my younger brother that sort of

gets to me. He's SERIOUSLY into the whole organic thing. But he's got

LOADS of crappy food around. Granted it's all whole, organic, etc.

but it's full of fat and surgar (like whipped cream, chocolates,

milk, etc). Hey man, what's the point. Also, he's into so much that

he spends three times as much for the stuff, gets about half as much,

and is strapped for cash now. While I don't gravitate towards

scienctifically manipulated foods/products or organic products I

certainly don't plan on spending the kind of crazy money he does on

things that are bad for me when used as directed/regulary. That's my

rant for the day.

All of this being said I do still try to drink 8 - 16oz of V8 a day

to get some extra veggies in. That's only 50-100 calories though so I

think I can suffer through that hit.

Benafiber in the green container works well. It is unflavored and

not grity and you can add it to anything. I use it any my 3 year old

has issues, he uses it too. I put it in his juice or milk. I add mine

to water, coffee, propell or what ever I'm drinking at the time. :)

Hugs!!!

Ah I read out of context. I suppose fruit juice could help with that

sort of thing but it'd be the sugar doing it not any fiber. I would

think that your benafiber or metamucil would be a better choice.

That's what I used, metamucil, and it worked great in a half day.

Maybe eat a hand full of prunes or raisins?

I tend to stay away from fruit juices as well. And I LOVE them! I miss

my OJ and apple cider and apple juice...and just about any other juice.

I was told watered down was ok; but YUCK! LOL! I want full flavor or

nothing at all. I did have a few sips of apple cider from the local

orchard back in GA when I bought some for my daughter; but it was enough

to satisfy the craving and I'm done. :-) I don't like V8 much so I

don't drink that either. I just stick to my crystal light.

I was looking thru the organic stuff at the store yesterday looking for

some soy nuts. I couldn't find any in the nut aisle so I thought I'd

try the " health food " section. I still didn't find any; but there is a

lot of expensive stuff there! And the carbs and fats & such aren't any

better than the cheaper " regular " stuff. I mean yes there is a lot to

be said for natural chemical free stuff; but not THAT much to be said to

justify the cost! Although I did find some soy crisps. OMG! They're

delicious! They tasted just like pork rinds! LOL! I forget the brand

and I already threw the bag away; but I will be buying more. I did find

some flavored ones as well in another brand. But, the nutritional

content was a bit better on these plain ones so I stuck to those.

I'll have to try that. i can't find my fiber tablets anymore. The

brand I was using now only comes in citrus flavor and the thought of

that just makes me want to gag for some reason. LOL I could get some

of that & add it to my morning protein shake.

I really don't like V8. I do like it's after taste. That's pretty

funny if you think about it because you can't get the aftertaste

without the nasty pre/current taste.

The SPICY is my salvation though. It's great stuff.

For breakfast I have the weight control oatmeal and to

thin it down, I use fat free half and half added to

it. I know this helps in this area. I can tell

during the days I do not eat oatmeal I feel crappier

(no pun intended) :)

Fat Free Half & Half? Can you give me some details on this like where

you bought it, name brand, nutrition information, your thoughts on

it's ability to substitute, etc.

Making me think too hard early in the morning huh?

LOL. Putting the half and half in my oatmeal is an old

Weight Watcher tip. Another one is freezing a can of

manderin oranges and eating them like a slush. I know

when I have a sweet tooth I do this but not every

often. Here is a link of the FF half and half

picture.

http://www.landolakes.com/products/SubCategoryIndex.cfm?SubCategoryID=64

I get it at Walmart near the milk and creams. I

beleive there is a couple brands, maybe a generic if I

remember right. I am trying to picture it in my head.

I will get the nutrition value later as I just

finished my carton a few days ago and I don't really

want to go dumpster diving! he he.

The oatmeal probably is the main part of helping along

a bowel movement. I use the FF half and half to thin

it down so it is easier on my pouch. I probably could

eat it without it but when I started eating more

solids in the beginning of this journey I did throw up

the oatmeal as it was too thick. Another note is that

I am lactose intolerant but my pouch can handle the

fat free half and half without taking a Lactose.

Don't ask me why. It is just some weird thing my

pouch throws at me. The more milk products added the

more it bothers me. I can't drink skim milk at all.

When I go grocery shopping, I will post you the

nutritonal value. For the life of me, I can't

remember the fat content and such. There are many

articles on the web when I was searching for a

picture.
