Guest guest
I was approved for surgery sometime around the second week of November 2005. I put it off until " sometime " in January so that I could get the $1400 or so off on my next year's flexible spending account. For the holidays I stayed away from the candies and pure sweets. I did SAMPLE a few pies, sweet potatoes, stuff like that. I used small plates. I ate protein first. I practiced, religiously, the no drinks 15 before, during or for 45 minutes after, etc. I drank no booze. I think I actually lost another 5 lbs. I guess it was because I was eating such complete crap earlier that fall that even a bit of straying on the exact days of feasting didn't affect me much. This year, visiting my brother in Austin, I did basically the same thing except that I did have a glass and half of wine. I think I might have gained a pound, maybe two. It's tough to tell because this is off my parent's scale which is dubious in it's consistent accuracy. I was wearing a new pair of shoes, jeans, etc. too. Plus I may have had a lot of water in me and was slightly constipated (need to keep the fiber up). So who knows if that weight was real or not. I don't sweat 2lbs when I've lost about 200 and need to lose 70 or more probably. The holidays are a definite challenge. You will have to be strong or at least strongER than you have been in the past but then you're going to have to get stronger on an every day basis too. Work at it gradually and build on your strengths. Good luck, let us know how you do either way. Guest guest
Hey Shay! I'm on the same diet. Well, I'm supposed to be on the same diet. I'm waffling something horrible. So I figure, I'll start out with one shake and then add another shake with my sensible low-carb meal. But I don't have any goal amount of weight to lose or date for surgery. That's kind of why I'm waffling. I do so much better with a goal. Then there is an end to the madness. Thus the problem with my previous diets. At the end, I eat what I want and gain it all back. Maybe I can create my own goal. How did your dr come up with 30lbs? Guest guest
I have been doing the one shake a day w/ me 2 meal and 2 snacks but I thought it was high time to step it up to 2 shakes but he said that the 30lbs would help me to have a safer, healthier surgery and recovery time. I don't have a date yet I am on my 2month w/ the nutritionist and i have to have 3 months to satisfy the insurance so my doctor said that this would be the perfect time to get that 30lbs weight lost out of the way so when I get the date he can set the sugery instead of waiting for me to lose shellylori@...> wrote: Hey Shay! Guest guest
I had to lose 15 pounds before they would set my date or send in my paperwork for insurance approval. I knew I would fulfill insurance requirements around mid-November so I started my own " pre-surgery " diet a month before that instead of waiting for the nutritionist to put me on theirs. I have either a protein shake or egg beaters and 2 lite sausages for breakfast. That is about 150 calories. I eat either a can of Progresso or similar soup or a Healthy Choice type TV dinner for lunch and dinner. Those range from 200-300 calories. On the high end, that would be 750 calories for the day. If I had the urge to snack, it would be on carrots, celery, or a plum. Most days I have been between 750 and 900 calories a day. I dropped 17 pounds in 5 weeks and I didn't feel hungry. They set my surgery for the 4th and I have my final weigh in on Tuesday. I hope that I didn't blow it over Thanksgiving because I know I ate more than 900 calories a day. I hope that I'm still more than 15 pounds down. I've hardly eaten this weekend to try to minimize the Thanksgiving damage. in MI ok guys I am about to begin w/my 2 shakes and 1 sensible meal to lose > this 30lbs per Dr. orders before the surgeryand to get approval. > I am nervous what if I don't lose all the weight...it's so hard my > birthday(Dec. 8th) is coming Christmas is coming and those are the time > that I like to get my eat, drink and get my party on ...but I realize > that I have to be " STRONG " because this is something that I want so > badly cause it will change me and my life forever...any advice to help > me make it through ???? > > We are a very active support group. > If the email becomes overwhelming, > please change your setting to NO EMAIL! > Please contact Group Creator > Robyn@... > >
Guest guest
They didn't mention exercise at all for me. did they with you? I wonder if that would make it better or worse. Historically, I've never lost a pound without exercising. But like I said, they haven't said anything to me about weight loss or how much to lose or anything like that. She said things would shrink and my organs would be " clean " for the surgery. Cause right before the surgery, I'm only on clear liquids and enemas every night. Is 30lbs a certain percentage of your weight? Maybe I can go with that. Guest guest
Honestly, put up reminders.... Goals... or something like that visual to remind you of what it is you are shooting for and have to do for yourself. Keep your eye on the prize sorta speak. This being the most challenging time of the year for you, try to prepare yourself the best you can ahead of time. When you know you are going out for the day, prepare a cooler with all the right things, keep water handy and convenient, etc... park further away in the malls and parking lots when going shopping.. instead of an elevator, take the stairs when you can... the small things make a HUGE difference...Most importantly...get that family and friend support... remind them how important this is to you and ask them to help you keep conrtol by not distracting you with the bad stuff... I wish you the best in this journey and look forward to sharing more!
