Is a sandwich too much? What is a typical day like when you start to

eat " regular " food again? What's normal for most of you? I wish I was

already done with the surgery part. I have another 2 months of classes

and therapy and then the insurance part..but my son is being stationed

in Iraq on March 15th and I would love to be healthy enough to see him

off. Hope all had a good holiday. I overate a bit with desserts but I

did take a walk before all my company came.

Once I got to where I am now, a meal is like what most people eat with some

exceptions, the portion sizes are smaller.

For example, I would and could easily eat two sandwiches for lunch, but now

it is only one, but you have to realize that I am now a little over four

months post op.

When you start out, you will be eating really small portions and as your

pouch heals, you will be able to eat more.

I am learning to quit when I feel full and if I get hungry later on, then I

will eat something else and it just keeps going.

The classes are good and each surgeon does things just a little different.

I am really fortunate that I have a great dietician that I can ask many

questions of and have gotten some really good information.

The key is to follow what they give you in their guidelines and you will do

just fine.

On a good day for me...

Either a yogurt protein shake in the morning with fresh fruit or half of an

egg omlete with ham, cheese, onions, and bell peppers.. These are usually my

only morning foods.

For lunch I have some kind of lunch meat, salad with meat, chili, soups,

etc... something with protein in it...

Dinner, meat only usually... I may add some veggies if I have the room, but I

usually try to get my veggies and fruits in the earlier part of the day...

If I get hungry in the earlier part of the day, I have cheese, almonds,

apples, carrots, etc...

I have been struggling with waiting till I am starving to eat in the earlier

part of the day... I have to get control of this and balance it out...otherwise

I start messing up.

Even that little walk you too helps, its the little things that add up.

I'm 10 months out and can kill a double meat 6 " chicken breast sub

from subway. I get double tomatoes and I'm not sure that's even

enough. Extra onions. Yellow peppers and lettuce too. Yellow mustard.

No Mayo which does take a little getting used to but the mustard is

enough really.

I don't really have a subway lunch or dinner more than maybe once a

month but they're great when travelling. Either that or I'll get a

large chili from 's. That fills me up nicely too.

I can usually eat or almost eat a whole sandwich at home too. That's

usually a dark wheat bread, lean turkey meat, provolone cheese,

saurkraut or loads of tomatoes and a spicy brown mustard.

Hmm....getting hungry now. Time for breakfast probably.

I hear you there Mike. I am to that point now and had my first bag of

microwave popcorn this afternoon. It took me 45 minutes or more to eat it,

but it definitely went down without any problems.

Hi All, I am 11 months out and there is no way that I could even eat a

half a sandwich! I take a few bites and I am totally stuffed! I have

not been hungry since I had the surgery, is this normal? It doesn't

sound like it. I am just thankful not to be hungry. Let me know what

you think, Take Care, M

I can do a bag of popcorn in 20 minutes or so. I highly recommend

Orville Redenbacher's SmartPop Kettle Corn. It's very tasty and has

very few calories/fat. Loads of fiber too. Makes a great dessert.

I guess that different people can eat a little differently. I ma just now

to the point where I can eat a whole peanut butter or pimento cheese

sandwich and I always use a heavier whole grain bread.

I understand that. I had a bag of kettle corn yesterday while watching

football and it was wonderful. It took me more than 20 minutes to eat it,

but it was one of the most filling snacks I have eaten in some time and I

dearly love popcorn anyhow and there are some really good low fat microwave

popcorn products out there as well.

My nutritionist says that nothing is absolutely off limits and that if

we can tolerate it, then we can eat it. There are many things that she

doesn't advocate eating, but she doesn't forbid them in the long run.

However, remember that the first few months after the surgery is your

" honeymoon period " where you will lose the most weight the fastest.

Don't push yourself to see what all you can eat that you ate before

the surgery. Remember that is what got you here in the first place.

I've seen a lot of people posting that they are eating pasta and bread

and sweets then complaining that they aren't losing weight. The

surgery is a tool and not a cure. It will only work if you work with it.

I am 2 years + out and still can't eat a whole sandwhich.

DAILY I have 2 protine shakes a day ( one in AM one in PM)

1 Venti Starbucks, one egg, string cheese, a few shrimp and a

protine bar. I will have one small meal usually a few veggies and

protine (Example:4 pc Sushimi)

That is about it for me.
