Josie,

It will get better......I could not sleep well the first few days....people

said to me that they had slept in a recliner for the first days, I did

not......I just used a bunch of pillows around my belly and did what I could to

get into some kind of position that I could get a little sleep.....The first few

days are hard, but it will get better.......Like you said, keep your eyes on the

prize! Take care of yourself.....

I never had too much pain, but had to sleep on my back for a while because

it was hard to turn on my side and having the filter in did not help too.

It will go away but you will have to give it time and just keep your eyes on

the big picture and you will be all right.

Hi guys,

I had surgery Monday morning and I've been back since this

afternooon. This is so much harder than I thought. What was I

thinking? I NEED to keep my eye on the prize so to speak but I can't

imagine feeling this bad for longer. I know it sounds pathetic as I

only am 2 days out but I need your words.

Did any of you experience your swollen pouch protruding when you

attempted to get up? Anyone have advice on how to best sleep? I'm a

side sleeper especially since I dont' breath well on my back but I

can't move to my side right now. Also, anyone feel ocassionally dizzy?

Anyway, anything you guys have to offer I would so appreciate it. I

will read your posts I hope tomorrow on Turkey Day.

I can't eat but I am sticking to drinking liquids as much as I can.

Hi Josie,

I too had a very hard time with surgery. I had a very bad infection

in my blader. My bed bag was nothing but blood. I also had a high

fever and felt that I did the wrong thing. I had to stay extra days.

Your port hole (as I call it) will take a while to heal. YOU WILL

FEEL BETTER! I am out 13 months and went from a size 24 to a size

12. I am so glad I did it! My health is so much better. Think

possitive...it will get better and you will love the new you! The

worst is over.

You can e-mail me if you want.

It will get easier every day! Try propping your belly up w/ pillows

under it to sleep on your side. That's what I did to be able to sleep

on my side.

Morning Josie,

BELIEVE me when I say I know EXACTLY what you are feeling. I went through

everything you just discribed. It will pass although I realize this is easier

said then done. The first week was the worst, I slept on the couch on my back

with pillows proping me up. I actually did quite well as I am a side sleeper as

well. It gets easier each day and when you see the weight coming off, believe me

that will settle it all. I would do it all again in a heartbeat knowing I would

reap the benefits I have at 110 lbs gone! As you said, keep your eye on the

prize, it is so worth it. Keep walking and sipping, walking and sipping, you

will do it and we are here for you. Try to enjoy your Thanksgiving!!! HUGS!

Welcome to Loserville!!!!!

Hang in there. I promise you that the pain your going thru right now is worth

I am 6 months out and have lost 111 lbs.. I also went thru that post-op " what

Hi Josie, When I first had surgery I found that one of the large body

pillows worked fantastic! I couldn't live without it, you can put in

right up under your stomach for support and it feels great! Hope this

helps you.

As for feeling bad, the only time I thought what did I do, was right

when I woke up from surgery, after that I knew I would be fine, I

found looking at everyone's before and after pictures very motivating

and now I am where I want to be in just 11 months. You will be there

sooner than you know it. Good Luck, M

Josie, I feel like I'm in the same boat. I had my surgery last

Thursday and had no idea I would hurt for so long. I get very little

sleep. I too am a side sleeper and just can't do it even with

pillows. I had the weight loss surgery to help with back pain. I

tried sleeping on my back, but then my back hurt so bad it kept me

awake. I tried sleeping in a recliner and it was very comfortable,

but I just was unsettled all night. All day long, I dread the night

time.

I'm also having problems with not wanting to eat or drink. I can

swallow only one bite. The next bite I take, I can't get down. I've

tried several different types of protein shakes and can't stomach the

taste of any of them. I've tried to just force things down, but I

can't do it. I try a different plan of action every day to try and

intake enough protein, water, and calories, but nothing works.

I'm also having a hard time with my medications. On of the three

medications I take for my back pain can't be crushed and another

tastes so bitter when it is crushed that I can't stand it. I've tried

mixing it with all sorts of things but just can't get it down.

Several people have told me that it can take up to two weeks for the

pain to go away and even with only one week left, I don't see how I'm

going to make it through.

If you find any better way to sleep, please share as I'm willing to

try anything.

Josie hi!! I don't know if my pouch protruded when I got up because my belly

is so big : ) But the first 2 days are rough..getting comfortable is a full

time job. I found that if I layed on my right side it was very uncomfortable

for about a min..and then the discomfort went away and I could stay on my right

for a good while. It took longer for the left side. Yes, feeling light headed

when you get up the first few days post op is in the norm...and you will feel

weak for awhile. I still do...but less and less...and I'm probably a lot older

than you are at 62! Hang on Josie..the worst is almost over sweetheart.

Donna, Hi! I just emailed a response to Josie...but you talk about your back

pain here, and I'd like to address that. I had just about the worst back and

leg pain ever post op and for the first 8-9 days. First, the positioning on the

surgical table aggravates this pain, and being in bed so much adds to it too. I

can't take any pain meds anymore either...and I have taken gobs of NSAIDS for

years. The back and leg pain has improved a little and I'm hoping it keeps on

improving. So many many people talk about their back pain either disappearing

or lessening to a huge degree after weight loss. Hang tight Donna!

I'm sorry to be so ignorant, but I haven't had my surgery yet and

don't know many of the details. I hope this question isn't too stupid!

What is this " pouch " that a few have referred to? Is it part of a

roux-en-y? Thank you.

It's the little pouch they create out of your stomach.

Thanks, . But it's supposed to be so much smaller than your

stomach used to be, so I guess I don't get why would it protrude? I

thought that maybe the pouch was the thingy they install when you have

a lap band procedure so that they can add saline to the band. Glad I

asked.

Hi Cat, There's lots of good info on the web with pictures...each one gives you

a little different perspective. Here's a website that has a drawing...I've seen

better, but this will give you an idea of what a pouch is.

The most pain I had after surgery was getting up from bed. ANd yes, the pouch

protruded and it felt like I was ripping my insides up! I found that getting as

close as possible to the side of bed and then rolling out worked best for me.

I also sleep on my side. But for several days after my surgery I put a pillow

under my knees while sleeping on my back. This took pressure off my lower back

and was more comfortable. The first time I was able to sleep on my side, I

thought it was heaven!

Feeling dizzy is probably a sign of dehydration or low blood sugar. Sip Sip

Sip all day long! It is very important to your overall health. And, even if

you don't feel like eating, you must try hard to get in your protein. It will

be difficult to do the first week or so, but try as hard as you can to reach

your water and protein goal as quickly as possible. You will start getting more

energy and feeling better quicker if you drink water and get in the protein.

I experienced the same issues... my first two weeks were 90% water, which I had

to force. I was allowed jello and broth, but no way, I couldn't hang so I drank

nothing but water the last 1 1/2 wks of my first stage... not a drop of food...

I was happy to get into some cottage cheese in phase two let me tell you... and

I switched over to tea and crystal light to make it through my liquids. The

first month is the hardest, after that, it was glory for me.

You will get through this, it doesn't seem like it, but later down the line

you will look back and not think twice about doing it again if you had to... No

one wants to be uncomfortable, but what comes out of this is so much more. We're

here for you... YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!
