Guest guest
Hi My experience is: my RH hip was resurfaced last year. I was not advised pre-surgery to stop taking anti-inflamatories. I lost a lot of blood during surgery. My OS said this was mainly because I hadn't stopped them! So....I have my LH scheduled for just over two weeks time. I am now only taking paracetemol as it seems logical to me to stop taking a blood thinning agent. Hope the surgery goes well. ine > At my pre-admission session, I was told to continue taking Vioxx, > Tylenol 3, & sleeping pills right up to the time of surgery. > Is every Dr. different? Guest guest
Ditto here. I was told to stop taking Vioxx 10 days before surgery. It was considered a MUST. I suggest you call your doctor and ask again. Might it be possible you misunderstood? Lois C+ 3/27/03 Dr. MOnt Re: Medication Before Surgery I'd definitely double-check with the surgeon about continuing the Vioxx longer than 5 days pre-op! It's one of several medications called cox-2 inhibitors that are closely related to the NSAIDs (non-steroidal antiinflamatiory drugs) group, such as Ibuprofen. All of these medications, as well as medications containing aspirin, can have increased bleeding time as a side effect. The Tylenol #3 and sleeping meds shouldn't be a problem. In fact, if you stop taking the Vioxx, you're going to need the T3 more than ever!
