Arti_fex,

I'm so sorry it's taken me forever to respond. I'm having trouble

keeping up with email because although the hip is superb and the knee is

getting better and better, I have continuing lower back problems and

sometimes am pretty shelled after work.

With the knee, I was bone-on-bone in the patella-femoral part. The

patella was replaced with a custom piece made by Biomet. It required a

CAT scan to get the correct, precise measurements. Then I had to wait

about six weeks for the part to be manufactured.

My grandmother used to say I'm not a trusting soul and my husband says I

always see the glass as half empty--had to give you some context. I

trust Dr. Gross absolutely and knew if anyone could fix that knee, it

was him.

I'm still searching for the Surfacehippy equivalent for knees and lower

back and a back surgeon as wonderful as Dr. Gross. I hope this is

helpful to you and your friend--we've got to help each other get good

information.

Skater Gwen (hoping to be rolling again soon)
